I worked at J. C. Penney (Less than a year)

    Pros

You get rewarded for getting credit applications
There's a 25% associate discount that is stackable with public coupons
    No uniform
    Nice people

    Cons

You could be the best employee ever but if you don't get enough credit applications you'll be frowned upon.
Sales associates are pretty behind the register all day bagging.

    Advice to Management

    Don't stress about credit applications
Get your return policy right, some Managers allow damaged/washed/altered items to be returned while others don't.

    Pros

The insurance is really good !

    Cons

The pay is terrible. I am not compensated for the experience I have. I joined on in the hopes of quick advancement and I feel kind of stagnate. I have been there almost 6 months and making the same pay.

    Advice to Management

You should give incentives to stay with the company. There has been no education, no training, no room for advancement.

Friendly co workers that's about the only pro in this store/company

    Cut hours last minute
Leave you by yourself for a whole department with no help
A lot of people quit because of it
Do not respect your work availability
Low pay for the work done
Store closes at 9 but won't get off work till midnight

    Advice to Management

    Stick to the work schedules

    Pros

The other employees were very non-judgmental and outgoing. We all were able to help each other and get along while doing so.

Terrible scheduling. A lot of "clopens." Changed my schedule 3 times in less than 12 hours without calling to notify me or notify me, period. Could not start schooling on time because of hectic schedule.

    I worked at J. C. Penney full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunity to make more than an hourly wage.

    Cons

Cut- throat atmosphere. No respect for fellow sales associates. Management shows favoritism to a fault. "Security" personnel were busier watching us than the shoplifters in the store. It was ridiculous. Part timers were allowed to come in and work without any responsibility to help maintain the department. HORRIBLE holiday hours.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the concerns of your employees. Make the sales floor a positive and honest environment. Make solid, set floor rules. Encourage respect among associates.. Don't show BLATANT favoritism and partiality. Be fair with assigning holiday hours.
