I worked at J. Crew (More than a year)

    Pros

great discount, good resume filler, some team members were amazing

    Cons

No mobility, extremely busy depending on location, high school atmosphere

    Advice to Management

Listen to what your employees are asking and when non-manager employees decide to act like it's the school yard and make the environment hostile to everyone, properly discipline them or show them the door.

I have been working at J. Crew part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Employee discount; on trend styles; quality of most merchandise.

    Cons

Unorganized management; employee morale; customers have come to expect all items will be on sale due to J. Crew's constant promotions and sales; decline of fabrics and materials.

I worked at J. Crew full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great employees, great benefits including lots of PTO, room to grow up in the company.

    Cons

Management changes often and hardly any of them have your best interest in mind or are actually there to better the company, of the manager doesn't like you when you leave the company they will put you on the no rehire list out of spite.

    Advice to Management

You have a lot of great employees working for you and you shouldn't take a supervisors word for it when they tell you something about an employee, actually hear both sides of the story. The lynchburg location is crawling with supervisors who are only there to better their resume and act like they're better than everyone else.

I have been working at J. Crew full-time

    Pros

Flexible hours, 22 vacation days with the last week December off.

    Cons

Bureaucracy in certain departments with managers looking down upon entry level employees.

    Advice to Management

Upper management should be a little more transparent with everyone in the company. Also recognize entry level employees with more recognition and be compensated more.

I worked at J. Crew part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The discount is 30% and 50% off of 6 wear to work items a month. The networking that can take place during the encounters at this store is amazing.

    Cons

the store was more of a popularity contest than a store. People were ostracized for not being the same as others. If it is a small volume store there may be nearly impossible to meet goals.

    Advice to Management

Create a more positive work enviroment.

    Great discounts
    New merchandise all the time
    Shortened hours on Sundays

    Cons

Be careful what you say to the people you work with, they will use it to their advantage
There is little room to grow after making manager
They will try to talk you into taking a lower salary than you deserve
Over night rollouts... 1am-10 am shifts for visual merchandisers

    Advice to Management

Have district managers oversee more of the in store environment.
