    Pros

    Cons

The only thing I can think of is the weekend hours, but that is obviously industry standard across most retail.

Hire and train for more positions internally.

I worked at J. Crew part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    great discount
fun seeing new pieces when they roll in

    Cons

    security
    management was awful
bullied at work by the managers!

    Advice to Management

DO NOT LEAVE AN EMPLOYEE'S SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER OUT AND THEN TAKE PICTURES OF THEIR SSN!

Do not talk about which associates you hate out loud to each other. We can all still hear you even if you hide in a corner to talk poorly about your employees.

    Pros

Talented staff, emphasizes quality in work and attention to detail. Respected in the retail studio industry. Very good full time benefits.

    Cons

Political issues. Boxed in a tight role. Little room for creativity and growth. Fashion industry egos. Company is doing poorly.

    Advice to Management

Wish it was a more merit based environment.

I worked at J. Crew full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Transparent leadership and involvement throughout company, takes action quickly and reasonably, pays higher than competitor's average, great benefits on day one, ample opportunities for bonuses; both financially and through free clothes; etc.

    Cons

The only con I have is that it is a retailer and it is no secret that the industry is changing, therefore companies must change with it. That said, J. Crew has done a good job with staying on top of what they can control: namely employee morale, competitive sales, and outreach.

    Advice to Management

I was pleased with my experience at J. Crew; I only left due to having to relocate.

I have been working at J. Crew full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There is s great work-life balance here, and they are always tying to improve both the customer and employee experience. Your ideas will be valued and you can communicate with corporate freely.

    Cons

This is still a growing company and operations need a little improvement. Payroll can be tight, as with any retail company these days.

  10. "Sales associate perspective"

    Star Star Star Star Star
Current Employee - Sales Associate in New Brunswick, NJ
Current Employee - Sales Associate in New Brunswick, NJ

I have been working at J. Crew part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great jewelry, 30% employee discount, helpful managers teach you what you need to know.

    Cons

They want you to care about selling credit cards but there are rarely incentives to sell them. Upper level corporate people want things to look a certain way but do not seem to realize the difficulty of maintaining displays in particular ways when dealing with customers.

    Advice to Management

Corporate level should communicate more with store level managers to determine what managers see as challenges to implementing their suggestions. Upper level managers should ask lower workers' opinions on the clothing because some designs and patterns are just not cute.
