I worked with some great people and the discount is AMAZING

    Cons

One manager was horrible and ruined it for the rest of the employees if she was there for your shift. High turnover for college grads

    Pros

Great company with strong employee incentives like a deep discount on product and regular in house competitions.

    Cons

While I enjoyed my time there, the low pay and lack of commissions made it hard to stay.

    Pros

I loved having the discount and working with fun people at a company that I still shop at. The management were all friendly, supportive, and helpful with anything the employees needed.

    Cons

Even though I was able to advance twice within one store, I only received one pay increase that was so small it was a small slap in the face for all the work I had done for the company.

    Pros

Fun environment. Easy going group with quality product. Makes it easy to market. Commission on big orders is not bad and employee discount is good too

    Cons

Not the best place to work if you get tired of looking at fashion all day. I can be boring and dealing with customers is not always fun

    Pros

From time to time you can pick up some great final sales clothing with staff discount.

    Cons

J Crew has recently taken away commission from Sales Associates and has yet to offer any pay increase. Management states that the company has not performed as well as expected recently and has has to cut commission to from sales associates. This provides incentive to drive sales as an employee despite increasingly demanding sales goals. Also, scheduling is vary varied. During the winter hours are minimal and cannot be relied upon for regular income. Expect on call shifts where you have to call 2 hours before the shift to find out if they need you. This proves very difficult when trying to fit in other commitments with such uncertainty.

Duel Store directors/market directors makes unbalanced work place

    Apr 21, 2017 - Assistant Manager

    Pros

J.Crew has the ability to be a fun place to work we lead by the right people. Benefits are great for full time and of course the discount is an added plus.

    Cons

Store directors need to be managed especially store directors that are ALSO market directors. Unfortunately this duel title leave the home store of the Market director neglected or all of the responsibility lands on the shoulders of the assistant manager. For stores in this situation there feels as if there is no safe place to voice concerns. Wish regional directors were around more in these store so they knew what was really happening.

Not what it used to be

    Aug 1, 2014 - ASM
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Good people who care and work hard at the store level; OK discount

    Cons

Not enough hours to properly schedule the store, so salaried managers are expected to pick up the slack which translates to working 50+ hours per week, so zero quality of life. You are expected to schedule the store from 5 am to 11 pm with no hours to cover. Too often favoritism plays with regard to district managers/store directors. If someone doesn't like you, forget it, you are out or forced out. Brand has lost its way, too much emphasis on being the "cool" brand, which it never was, it was a classic brand with some current trends thrown in, but the pieces were all QUALITY. No longer. Stores are blamed for poor sales when it is the product that is not selling. Feedback that is anything but positive is either ignored for discouraged. Stores are expected to produce regardless of lack of hours, lack of product, non-working air conditioning and management does not want to hear any reasons for any slowdown in sales. no basis in reality. stores are forced to hire too many associates and then are not given any hours, so there's no loyalty, they are just there for the discount. No connection to Corporate. previously, when managers were hired, they were sent to Corporate for training, that went away, and you are just thrown in with no PRACTICAL training, just fluff training. HR people are just clueless and offer no assistance when there are personnel issues, they are clearly there for the company, and are not at all unbiased.
