I have been working at J.H. Cohn full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The location and the offices are really nice especially for those who live around that area. Induction time and training for beginners is superb.

    Cons

The consulting group is really badly managed. The consulting group partners are damaging the firm's reputation overall. Salary is ok but not the best compared to other firms in the same industry

    Advice to Management

Management should look more into the consulting group and take immediate actions.

    Pros

There is always work above your level that you can take on. The IT and reference resources are above average.

    Cons

Performance evaluations are used to make the "reviewer" look good. Many seniors feel that being rougher on the staff makes them look better to managers and partners.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of the foot soldiers. They're the ones doing all the work. Recognize the good managers from the ones that "look good"

  4. "Decent place to work"

    Cons

information flow from top down has lot of scope of improvement.

    Advice to Management

be more transparent with performance reviews and salary structure. Goals shall be provided to all the employees. Bonus structure should be formalized.

    Pros

If a person is new in the accounting field, it is a good place for a person to be exposed to many aspects of the field in order to become more of a generalist.

    Cons

However, if a person has been in the field for some time, the company tends to want to teach THEIR way of doing everything and does not recognized what a seasoned person has to offer. They prefer to grow people as opposed to bring people in from the outside.

    Advice to Management

Be more open to the ideas of people who come in with diverse backgrounds and don't just automatically think the J.H. Cohn way is the only way.
