I have been working at J. Mclaughlin part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Each store acts like it's own entity but has the luxury of having a big company behind it. All sales associates are chosen because they can fit within J McLaughlin's "culture of kindness".

    Cons

    Hourly pay is low.

    Advice to Management

Pay more to those who have proven their worth.

I worked at J. Mclaughlin part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -Ok pay for beginner
    -50% off employee discount
-Company offered weekly promotions to employees to earn money towards clothing purchases

    Cons

-Absolutely no say in scheduling. It is done almost 2 months in advanced and your shifts are up to your manager. Goodbye weekends and holidays. If you have to request off everyone will give you grief for having to "cover for you". I am a college student living many hours away from home and they expected me to work on Christmas Eve without even asking me first. They do not care about your family or social life.
-Very expensive products that are hard to sell to the every day person
    -Rude, demanding customers
-Not enough employees at the store I worked at
-I had one emergency situation and I couldn't work one weekend because I had to go tend to my family and there was no empathy from my coworkers. Instead it was a matter of "well I'm working 6 hours for you this weekend while you're gone, which day of mine are you going to take next week?" When I was constantly coming in when my coworkers got sick, needed to leave early, and agreeing when they wanted to switch shifts for their benefit.
-It wasn't just my store. When calling other stores I was mistreated by employees over the phone.
-Not a good place to work for a younger person (college student). Everyone is 40+, I was made fun of a lot for my "young age".

    Advice to Management

Their slogan is "culture of kindness" for their employees but the employees. I never felt like my coworkers treated me with kindness. It was always a competition or repayment. The employees have lives and families outside of working for this company. They should get a say in their working schedules.

I have been working at J. Mclaughlin (Less than a year)

    Pros

Having been in retail for forty years with many major retailers, I feel I have a number of different experiences to compare and contrast to. J. McLaughlin has a code of conduct called a "Culture of Kindness". They truly mean it. Everyone from the corporate office to store staff has been so supportive. The company has a "Customer First", approach to business, which I have found rare in the industry. They give you the guidelines and tools to offer concierge level service. It is very entrepreneurial. Both my District Manager, and the Vice President of Stores, listen to my ideas, and respect my decisions. I look forward to coming to work every day since I have started with this company.

    Cons

After eight plus months, I do not have any to list at this time

I have been working at J. Mclaughlin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

After working for a couple big boxed retailers, I feel as though I found a home with J.McLaughlin. Not only do they respect their staff but they pride themselves with their strong culture of Kindness. I have a work life balance that any person in retail, especially management would be pleased to have.

    And the clothes Rock!

    Cons

None. A great place to be!

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!
