I worked at J.P. Morgan full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great benefits package Plenty of opportunity to expand your knowledge and learn across groups.

    Cons

This review is strictly for the Newark, DE Tax Operations group. It is only fair to add that the group I am reviewing only make up a small portion of the company and do not reflect the overall culture at J.P. Morgan. The culture in tax requires an individual with a thick skin. In my personal experience I have seen a huge turn over. I believe the excuse of its tax and people don’t like the hours is management in denial. The hours and work in tax are not bad at all. Yes, you have your busy season for 3 months, but then it's very slow the remainder of the year. Although each individual who left may have their own reasons, the overall consensus is that the tax operations department in Newark,DE requires stronger management. This is due to the fact that the culture there allows employees to behave in a child like / high school manner. Although this speaks to a select amount. The way people interacted with each other was childish. I’ve seen staff and management, yell, curse, and back talk to each other daily. Employees are openly disrespectful towards one another and management seemed powerless to be able to take action. I say that with the knowledge that there were a few managers whom have stepped up and tried to do the right thing but were shut down by higher management. In one instance, the response received was to retain those employees and find more "fun" work for them. To me that was a sad response. I believe we are all adults and should conduct ourselves with respect towards each other. In addition, no one is responsible for you to have "fun" at work. Each of us owns our career, The reason you were hired is to help the organization reach its goals. If you refuse the job then no problem best of luck to you. Someone who is willing to do it will come take your place. This type of behavior caused more work for other employees who decided to be a team player and help with work others were refusing. The employees who chose to stay professional, eventually had enough of the environment and left. You can work here and make friends, but be prepared to deal with a individuals who do as they please without any repercussion. My advice is to learn as much as you can and move to a more professional environment where everyone is a bit more civil.
