I have been working at J.P. Morgan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work at to boost your resume and to gain some basic skills working with Excel and managing books and records.

    Friendly co-workers and higher ups.

Average age of the floor was about 25.

    Paid overtime really adds up

    Cons

    401k doesn't match till 3 years.

High turnover because of it being a great entry-level job and the lack of higher pay at the next level.

    Advice to Management

Raise the salary of the associates in order to keep turnover down and motivate analyst level workers so they try harder to get promoted.

    Pros

Overall I've encountered great coworkers and very approachable management (I had exposure to and held conversations with quite a few lower level MD's over the years).

They do try to encourage continuous learning and are extremely open to internal mobility (I made a move from asset management to the CIB after two years with no issues. you just can't be a poor performer and move..average and above you're good to go)

***note: I'm not going to bring up money as everyone complains about their comp for every company so what's the point***

    Cons

Many of the systems we use a on day to day basis are not built from the ground up and are often not very helpful. They seem to just add new systems when they need to build new ones from the ground up.

They keep around people who are very poor workers (call out constantly, don't pull their weight etc) which obviously pulls good workers down...prob they're scared to get sued so this may be more of a corporate issue not a JP issue.

Very poor training and procedure documentation system in the CIB operations area.

They're hiring temps to save money but the temps are poor workers or leave within a few months 70% of the time.

    Advice to Management

Look at improving your systems and IT departments because they're often not very helpful and perhaps that's because they're not trained well.

Also, make sure you put a true leader in a management position not just someone who has been there for a long time...I've worked for a number of managers who aren't true leaders and aren't alpha enough so to speak to get things done.

I worked at J.P. Morgan full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great company as for the benefits offered, they have a wide range of benefits for you and your family. Great work life balance if you are on the right team.

    Cons

They'd rather pay a new person coming in with 0 experience more than a seasoned individual moving up into a different role. I was heavenly tried by a hiring manager a few times when moving to a total different sector of the company with the lateral move talk. Luckily they wanted me bad enough to fix the issue but still very difficult to get what your worth if you've constantly moved up in the company.

    Advice to Management

Give employees what they are worth. Especially your high meets/exceed employees who were rated this year after year after year. Play far! Allow people to feel rewarded for their hard work while on a team.

I have been working at J.P. Morgan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, 401K, generous paid time off

    Cons

Hedge fund services turnover is really high. Management is aware of the issue but ignores it. Expect 12-14 hour day shifts 6 six days a week due to understaffing.

    Advice to Management

Stop complaining about employees leaving the company, there are talented people willing to commit in exchange for reasonable pay and work hours.

    Pros

Interesting client base, good benefits, good work/ life balance, there are different areas within loan operations that you can move to fairly easily.

    Cons

It's difficult to move outside of operations or middle office functions. The skills are very job specific and won't translate well to other areas of banking. Some people are there just to collect paychecks.

I have been working at J.P. Morgan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, great people, room for movement

    Cons

Not much room for growth & they force managers to try and make every promotion a lateral move. They'll pay you more as a rookie outsider than what they'll promote someone experienced already with the company would make. Frustrating

    Advice to Management

If it's a totally different higher grade job function please stop offering lateral moves, a little something more is better than nothing. Different jobs require different performance.

    Pros

Excellent pay, Global Company, many opportunities
