I have been working at J.P. Morgan part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Exposure and client contact is more productive in meeting people at
the work place to further the the product. In Avon I met people and
became top sales in that industry.

    Cons

You can become isolated and non productive. You must be a people person
    and a workaholic!

    Advice to Management

Discrimination and diversity can work hand in hand.New ideas must be encouraged

I worked at J.P. Morgan full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits are nice. Four weeks vacation, 401k matching, and a pension plan.

    Cons

Professional dress code required. Teams are not co-located so all meetings are virtual. Year-over-year raises are non-existent. Bonuses are based on how well you know people, not performance. Terrible rule preventing renegotiation of salary and position when moving internally, so the only way to increase your salary is to leave the company. Employee moral is horrible because the work environment sucks. Even though you are a developer you will be expected to work support, so expect nights and weekend work. If you work in Card you will be required to use a virtual desktop which can barely run two programs at the same time. If you work in the investment bank you will at least get a used laptop. Open Source concepts are implemented horribly, so expect to used software a year behind what is current if at all. 10% of your time will be spent actually coding. The rest will be consumed submitting requests and chasing approvals. At company meetings they stress how much money they are saving be reducing their technology budget as if that is a positive thing. The truth is corners are cut by forcing employees to used subpar technology (used laptops, virtual desktops, small monitors, etc.).

    Advice to Management

Value existing employees over new employees. Give them raises to remove the financial incentive to leave. Allow them to make vertical internal moves to reduce attrition. Get rid of the buddy-buddy review process so people aren't only giving bonuses to people they like. Get rid of all the technological barriers and spend money on technology that will empower developers to work at their full potential.

I have been working at J.P. Morgan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great work-life balance, super friendly team, even the stakeholders are really nice because they understand the value and purpose of internal audits

    Cons

I live in Philly and am tired of commuting to Wilmington, DE. Wish there was a Philly office with internal audit. Otherwise, it's great work and great company. The new quarterly deadlines are pointless and just cause a bunch of stress for no reason (solely so we can have good "metrics")

    Advice to Management

Find a better system than have quarterly Audit deadlines.

I have been working at J.P. Morgan full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great 401k, Health, Perks, Discounts, Mobility and decent pay for the area that we live in. Some teams are very progressive and have great development enviorments.

    Cons

The teams that have good development work are few and far between. On bad teams applivation development work can be poorly reviewed and written causing a bad learning experience for younger developers . Some projects and paths invested in are very misdirected and poorly decided on.

    Advice to Management

Work on better code reviews to ensure better code and try to make sure that when young new developers are coming in they get utilized properly and now thrown into non-dev roles
