I have been working at J.P. Morgan full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    >Organization itself is very collegial and open to internal networking >Name looks good on a resume, I guess >If you are lucky enough to work for someone who is politically connected, your career can advance quickly

    Cons

    >Heavily bureaucratic, hierarchical, and political environment >A lot of middle managers that talk instead of do >Productivity overall is very low. Productivity is not helped by offshoring work to teams that operate below the level of a competent high schooler >Stuck with outdated technologies and ways of doing things. Internal tech - from tech support to major systems - is a joke and several years behind current best practices. You will not hone competitive skillsets here. >Attrition is very high among anyone lower than VP rank >It's well known that the NYC presence is shrinking and morale is low as a result. Entire teams are looking for new jobs. >Penny pinching results in: no team building events/happy hours. No professional development budget or opportunities. Internet is throttled (in the name of saving $) so you can't use spotify or pandora to drown out open-office noise. Low-benefit, high-cost medical insurance. >401k match is puny (3% after 1 year, 4% at 2, 5% at 3) and only vests after 3 years at the firm >Childless managers work punishing hours and expect their employees to do the same >My colleagues and I agreed there was blatant favoritism in promotion-related decisions in my division. No transparency and moving goalposts for promotion decisions. >36.4 billion dollars in profit in 2019 yet compensation was flat firmwide. Consider working for a firm with profit-sharing
