    Pros

Collaborating with experts in the fine-art world, changing exhibits, always busy, working on projects from concept to completion, constantly learning new concepts and solutions, location.

Design by committee, high stress environment, non-profit pay, driving to location, low-tech hardware, sitting at computer for long periods, no incentive programs.

I worked at J. Paul Getty Trust full-time

    Pros

It's a pretty easy job, they are sitting on a pile of money so there's not a lot of urgency. Definitely the most beautiful setting I will ever work in. People are super friendly and generally pretty culturally engaged. Great benefits.

    Cons

It's extremely slow paced and bureaucratic. The whole tech apparatus is badly outdated. Rough commute unless you live in Brentwood/Santa Monica.

    Advice to Management

Hire some younger, more diverse people and be more open to new ideas.

I worked at J. Paul Getty Trust full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The Getty is a beautiful place to work - you can't beat it. My colleagues worked well together and people in general were nice. You can't beat the vacation package either. And I will forever miss every other Friday off.

    Cons

Top-down management, more bureaucracy than not. Salaries are wildly inconsistent and most managers do not seem to care. Very hard to advance, esp. when you have been there a long time - you will not be rewarded monetarily, though they may throw a fancier title at you.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Evaluate salaries for similar jobs and have them align. Value employee work and acknowledge it.

    Pros

A truly international environment. The most valuable asset of the Institute is its staff who bring an exceptional array of perspectives, knowledge, and expertise.

    Cons

An extremely corporate environment with a rigid and stifling hierarchical structure. The organisation is extremely risk averse. The decisions it makes are too often influenced by a concern for branding and the advancement of institutional profile.

I worked at J. Paul Getty Trust as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Contracting at the Getty was an overall great experience. The views are great and it's inspiring being surrounded by brilliant individuals. Benefits are great and you will surely be well taken care of once you become part of the family. The family mentality and cohesiveness is unrivaled and the decision to accept a better offer from UCLA was hard to make. I will never forget this experience.

    Cons

-Great place to be as far as the prestige and looks of the Getty Center go.
-Condescending management paired with a dictatorship mentality made Getty life difficult to tolerate.
-Felt taken advantage of given the amount of hard work I put in only to be undervalued.
-Management had the habit of taking things personally.
    -Morale within department very low.

    Advice to Management

-Treat your department with respect and they will truly follow you into battle.
    -Don't take things personally
    -Teach what you preach.

    Pros

Company has good benefits and is a great place to work if you are a student because they are willing to work with your school schedule. It also pays well for the position and is pretty easy.

    Cons

Little room for advancement. Supervisors are not very professional. It is a large company and it can be difficult to work with and get to know other departments even though they are all related. Moreover, it is run more like a for-profit than a non-profit such that communication and transparency are lacking.
