    Pros

it's a beautiful place to work. Amazing views, beautiful gardens. It's very easy to settle in for a few years, do your job and take advantage of seeing previews of exhibits etc. Great benefits, lots of time off.

    Cons

Difficult commute from just about everywhere, employee parking is a nightmare and once you are at work you are kind of trapped. There is no such thing as taking care of a few quick errands on your lunch hour. They make you write your own performance reviews which makes moving up difficult as you don't get guidance from managers on your job performance. The campus as a whole can be clique-ish. Not a lot of interaction between departments except at the very top.

    Advice to Management

I don't really have any. They ask for it year after year, and no matter the issue, big or small nothing ever gets resolved.

I have been working at J. Paul Getty Trust full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It is a beautiful work environment and many employees are also artists in their personal time, whether writers, filmmakers, painters, quilters etc. People here love art and the Getty is supportive of artistic endeavors. Many of the staff have an alternating off-Friday schedule which is a nice work-life balance perk. Benefits are also quite good compared to other companies as well.

    Cons

Sepulveda is the only way to access the Center so traffic can be frustrating at times. Parking is limited so most staff must park at the bottom of the hill and be shuttled up which adds time to the work day. Also, once you are on campus there are not many dining options since it takes so long to go back down and leave for lunch most people buy food at our cafe or bring their own.

I worked at J. Paul Getty Trust as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Supervisors truly appreciated me and my work and I them and theirs.

    Cons

They wanted me to stay, I would have only I was on a mission to explore London for a few years instead, so I'm sorry I could bring them (and this role) with me on my UK adventures!

    Advice to Management

Have earlier years selectable on this site - was a lucky contract temp at this wonderful place in early 2007 (not 2010, which was the earliest year selectable below!).

I worked at J. Paul Getty Trust full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good company, too much management.

    Cons

The company hires and fires people according to how good their "Trust Fund" is doing. If there fund is doing good, your job is good. If the fund is doing bad in the stock market, they lay off people.

I worked at J. Paul Getty Trust full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The setting, the art, diverse workforce. I worked at the GRI for nearly 9 years, almost straight out of college. I felt lucky to work in a department which allowed me to interact with the curators and art--a dream job for a long time. Also the GRI is a library and research center and so the exposure to rare and new books on architecture and art was a privilege.

    Cons

Byzantine management structure that makes communication, direct action, any spontaneous problem solving difficult. Most distressing to more ambitious folks is that upward mobility rarely happens.

    Advice to Management

Be more innovative and don't sweat the details. Stop micro-managing everything.

    Cons

politics, leadership is not always good about communicating with staff, very difficult to advance, minimal pay increases each year.
