    Doesn't Recommend

    I worked at J Sainsbury full-time

    Pros

    discount
    customers
    sense of camaraderie amongst colleagues

    Cons

management: unapproachable, misleading and manipulative. inconsiderate of personal matters/concerns you may have that affect your ability to do your job.

environment: depressing, stagnant and at times hostile place to work in.

progression: little to no opportunity. colleague's desire to better themselves, move up in the business are never taken seriously. internal candidates are never considered so once you're there you are stuck regardless of how long you've been working with the company and how much experience you have accumulated.

no communication, just a childish approach to colleagues from managers. team leaders, managers would rather see you leave than move you to another department or gain more responsibility.

no mental health awareness or consideration for colleagues and the tole this kind of environment can take.

    Advice to Management

    - listen to your colleagues. ACTUALLY LISTEN!
    - consider their mental health when stagnating their progression, consider how unjust that is and the tole that that will now take on their physical health
    - make open and confidential forms of contact/communication so colleagues feel like they have someone to talk to
    - communicate with your colleagues. if they are not considered for a promotion or transfer, tell them and if possible tell them what went wrong so they know what to do next time. keep your colleagues in the loop.
    - train some of your team leaders in emotional intelligence and just being a better point of contact.
    - with colleagues who's first language is not english or who's processing is a lot slower, take your time with them. just because someone is slower or needs more time or a different approach to their learning does not permit certain team leaders to treat them with no respect or take out their frustration.

    - TALK TO A RANGE OF COLLEAGUES. not just the ones who you know will always have something nice to say. that is a misrepresentation.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook

I have been working at J Sainsbury part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Live only 10 minutes away so

    Cons

It's like being back at school. No thanks for anything extra you do. Always short staffed so you get no extra money for covering that persons shift. Always criticised for having a very quick chat to customers or colleagues. Treated like you're an idiot!

    Advice to Management

Management must work their weekly hours and stop calling in sick. They still get paid and we get a disciplinarary! Us minnows need to understand the impact our absence causes, not as much as the impact Sainsburys has on their staff when they fail to employ replacement staff for months on end.
