Loved it
May 27, 2023 - Club J Afterschool Counselor in Palo Alto, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
It's just a good job in general. Great coworkers, great boss, kids are fun to be with, good hours, benefits, etc. Especially good for those 18 or a bit older looking for a good part time job. $22/23 an hour is pretty nice.
Cons
Sometimes the gas vans aren't filled up which makes driving to pick up kids from school tough, but this usually gets taken care of within an hour. Can't really think of any true cons for this job.

Enjoyable but there are definitely issues
Mar 16, 2023 - Summer Camp CounselorRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
All in all I had a good time working here. The environment is friendly and the directors work hard to hire a diverse staff, POCs, disabled people, LGBTQIA+ people etc A lot of employees come back and work three or four summers as most of the employees are college students with the other portion being teachers. I have celiac disease as well as a pain syndrome and they were good with my boundaries as long as I communicated in advance.
Cons
Unfortunately there was a CIT (counselor in training) who was sexually harassing most of the non-masc presenting staff. Multiple of us came to the directors and were told to not tell them about the inappropriate and homophobic behavior. My formal position for most of the summer was a one on one counselor meaning I worked with special needs children. I would not recommend this position. They didn’t give me any training even tho I was told repeatedly that I would. Also the head of the program does not answer her walkie so multiple times I was trapped in a very unpleasant situation because i couldn’t get ahold of my boss.

DO NOT WORK THERE
May 3, 2023 - Swimming Instructor and Lifeguard in Staten Island, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
co-workers are nice and you can use gym.
Cons
Your bosses are jackasses and they only care about themselves. No one tells you anything about how the operation functions. They will bully people out of fear to show that they are the boss and are "in charge". I do NOT recommend it.

Apr 20, 2023 - Lifeguard/Swim Instructor in Youngstown, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Lovely and inclusive leadership and coworkers. Interactive training throughout the year and they paid for recertifications.
Cons
Not very competitive pay for the area. However the schedule was flexible and the team was great.

Feb 1, 2023 - Fitness DirectorRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Meeting new people, especially members.
Cons
Nepotism and favoritism plays a major roles within fitness center and administration. Rewarding bad staff members with unique pay and benefits while not recognizing hard workers that truly hold the fitness center together. No support from administration when it comes to development since their family members are also staff members that are beyond below average. The inability for fitness management to grow and manage since administrators wants their ideas to be implemented, which has no support nor research for their decision making, despite of what the fitness director can say or do. Poor communication across the board. Has no support from maintenance in repairing fitness center to keep up with standards with cleanliness and functionality.
