I worked at JD Williams full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great incentives, Decent Pay, Amazing on-site facilities. Great short term job choice

    Cons

Opportunities to grow are limited due to staffing size. Awkward set shifts. After working in small, close companies can be very cold and isolated as just another number.

I worked at JD Williams full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent discount and opportunity to grow and learn skills outside of your job spec. The second area manager I worked with was great to work for.

    Cons

The company is very disorganised and wastes tonnes of money on things that then effect the overall business. This coupled with bad business acumen meant that they had to close 5 stores in recent times due to bad profit management. Head office have no idea how to run a tight knit ship.

    Advice to Management

Figure out how brick and mortar stores work and don't overreach before the company had enough money to sustain stores, losing jobs does not make others feel stable in the company.

I worked at JD Williams full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - The benefits and discounts you get were very good, it meant you saved a lot of money - The company seemed to care about wider problems, not just profit. Good corporate responsibility through the company, plus the CEO who seems to genuinely care about that stuff Co-workers we more like family members. We pushed one another to be the best every day

    Cons

management to ridged, way too much inter office politics office could have been brighter, but was in a good location

    Advice to Management

There is a lot of people that seem to get by under the radar and don't move their weight. It means that others feel less motivated. keep a better eye on all employees

I have been working at JD Williams full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Most of the people Staff discounts and benefits Onsite facilities

    Cons

Below average pay Staff are not valued Managers are a low unto themselves

    Advice to Management

Train existing staff towards promotion with good salaries instead of hiring new recruits in positions above long-term staff. Advise managers to follow a standard code of practice as managerial styles differ greatly.

I worked at JD Williams full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

When I was there it was a fabulous company, it felt like a family. It was the first place I worked in Manchester when I moved here alone and I made friends for life. You get fully trained and as the product base is so relevant, before long you know the ins and outs of every product line.

    Cons

Over the years things seem to change, there was much less of a feeling of loyalty and family and it was all focused around profit and redundancy. The employees understood the need for change and were all engaged in making the business fit for the future, it just never felt to the front line like they were listened to in any way which was a huge shame.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your front line employees.

I have been working at JD Williams full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Apart from manchester based and perks of staff discount there are none any more- Product floor are overworked, need more staff except merchandisers, money put into growing as an etailer and nothing into people who ensure product is technically correct, short staffed due to previous redundancies and dissallusioned staff leaving, wishy washy managers only interested in their future not of their staff.

    Cons

Personal development plans highly focused on where managers need you to perform to make them look good and not interested in how you achieve it on top of an increased workload, managers managing people they have no clue about the job those people do, no hands on management just trumped up managers who need the job doing but cant help you get it done or arent interested, irrelevant meetings about how to get more done ,...

    Advice to Management

Respect the people at the beginning of the product the ones who need to make sure the product is right for the customer, work together and take notice of the hours these people put in, and stop trumping up the managers who achieve results at the expense of others.
