I worked at JELD-WEN full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Seemed a great opportunity at the start. Was offered a manager role at excellent pay. Responsibilities grew rapidly and plenty of room for improvement.

    Cons

Pay was excellent but benefits were weak. No work-life balance, expect long hours. Each plant is its own entity and competes with other plants for customers so no sharing of best practices. 2017 expectations from 1940s processes and equipment. Lack of training, you are just expected to know or "get creative." Constant pressure to achieve targets or you won't be around. Group manager is expected to be all things;...

    Advice to Management

Lean has to be driven from the bottom up, not from corporate down. Stop the competition between plants, plants should learn best practices from each other. Leadership is there to lead - not just make demands and threats. Invest in training. Look at your management turn-over rate, big red flag!!

I have been working at JELD-WEN

      Pros

The company offers wonderful benefits to their employees.

      Cons

Employees are overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated.

      Advice to Management

Value your employees for they are your company's backbone. Utilize them for their abilities and do not stifle their growth. Show appreciation for the work your employees do and compensate appropriately. Give suggestion for improvement as their is always room for growth, but also point out to your employees their strengths, rather than always focusing on the negative.

I worked at JELD-WEN full-time for more than 5 years

      Pros

Pay was desent for starting out. Management needed a little extra but the employees were great to work with. Benefits were great.

      Cons

It was very hot during the summer and cold during the winter. Did not like the second shift hours at all.

      Advice to Management

Try to pay employees a little more and some would stay longer.

I worked at JELD-WEN full-time for more than 10 years

      Pros

Great history of having good people to work with.

      Cons

Bought out by a venture capitalist group changing the dynamics to a more win at any cost attitude. Lost commitment to tenured employees.

      Advice to Management

Remember the folks that brought this company to the top before the downturn in the industry.

I have been working at JELD-WEN

      Pros

It is a good company that takes pretty good care of their employees. The management at the plant level was good to work with and all worked pretty well together. When I was there everyone wanted to do a good job and everyone worked pretty well together to accomplish the overall goals of the plant.

      Cons

Working in a factory gets a little monotonous. The extreme heat and cold temperatures make it uncomfortable in the winter and the summer months. Being a private company we were left out of the loop on a lot of information that we would have been notified of if the company was public and had to disclose.

      Advice to Management

Be More Open With Information About The Company.
