I have been working at JFK Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Safe town, friendly coworkers, culturally competent, good cafeteria food, the option to get involved, opportunities to advance, and great benefits.

    Cons

The hospital is more physician driven vs nurse driven. The EMR system is outdated but there are plans to upgrade.

I have been working at JFK Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Considering it is still a smaller community medical center, JFKMC has a lot going for it. They are always trying to improve quality while advancing. In general it is easy to make friends with colleagues. There are also many opportunities to move within the hospital for career advancement. There are nice little treats (parties, bonuses, etc..) for hospital anniversaries and also when a unit makes an accomplishment.

    Cons

With the exception of neuroscience, there is a limited array of treatment/employment options given the smaller size of the hospital. However, there is a considerable amount of expansion occurring.

    Advice to Management

Improvements are always being made. Continue to address employee concerns. Also continue improving communication across the hospital, in particular between nurses and doctors. Take full advantage of available technology to improve accuracy in medical care and enforce the use of said technology

I worked at JFK Medical Center full-time

    Pros

I was employed at JFK fresh out of nursing school. I could not have asked for a more supporting staff from the HR department to my Nurse Manager. Brian Scheets helped the transition into JFK go very smoothly. He is so approachable, knowledgeable and eager to help in anyway possible. His passion for his job and his employees is very clear and provided a welcoming feeling for me. All my colleagues on the floor were supportive and were always willing to help or teach. The same goes for my nurse managers. Incredible women... felt like I was treated like family rather than an employee.

    Cons

The only con I can really think of is on the floor I worked on patients went for pt/ot/speech therapy daily. It was scheduled way to early it was very difficult to have 6 patients washed medicated and fed when they were showing up 7:30-8:00M. Other than the scheduling issue I really can't think of any cons

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing! I felt my managers did an amazing job and feel very fortunate to have worked and learned from them.
