    Pros

    Collaborative atmosphere, exceptional quality of science, challenging but many resources available to help (other students, professors, post-docs, shop staff)

    Cons

    Some effort should be given to finding the group that is a good fit for your working style and personality - as there is a fairly large range available.

    I have been working at JILA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Excellent scientific institute. Top worldwide institution for Atomic Molecular Science, ahead of MIT in this discipline.

    Cons

    Better salaries than most institutes except for national labs but lower than one would live on for a longer term.

    Pros

    There are mountains of great opportunities in AMO researches, especially in ultracold atoms.

    Cons

    You have to work very hard.

    Pros

    Very active research and collaboration with other research organizations such as Colorado School of Mine, NIST, etc.

    Cons

    2 years is typical default contracts, Rent is higher than other area think about $1000 a month for two bed apartment (it's the base line).
