    Pros

    Great beliefs and freedom to be creative and freedom to run your store.

    Cons

    They ask for too much , like to micromanage, and are not happy when you work your tail off still is never enough and they look for reason to get rid of you or to write you up,whether you are late because you had to cover another shift and you open to close or whether you were at the store at 2am letting the floor crew out. And they dont care if you stay all day and night to help get the store right, They yell about payroll but want 100s of things done and give you no time nor money and the discount could be better for employees.

    Advice to Management

    When you have store managers or asst managers and even team members that truly care about their job and the company back off a little and let them grow and stop being so hard on them.

    the education classroom is neat

    Customers with coupons
    lifting extremely heavy ROT's
    being told that even though you have scoliosis and an extremely bad back that you have to lift anyway and that you don't matter.

    Need more hours and more pay.

    Pros

    Positive work environment for the most part. Good empee discounts. I loved working with the customers, especially kids learning to sew.

    Cons

    Some co-workers who were not at all supportive, thought they knew it all & didn't know much. Some in mgmt shouldn't be there. Hours cut after the holidays.

    Advice to Management

    It appears overall improvement since Jill took over, but I wasn't there. Find a way to keep good employees after the holidays, not just those dead weight w/seniority- customers also complained about this.

    Always friendly and helpful staff. Employee discounts. Some amazing customers.

    Cons

    High expectations to do the job but with inadequate staffing. Hours constantly cut to meet payroll. Not compensated enough for the work expected of the employee. Having to deal with some very rude customers

    Advice to Management

    CORPORATES! Show some respect for your employees. They are the backbones of your corporation. Your motto should not be just for the customer alone.
    When was the last time you worked with the public.
     Because the customer is not always RIGHT!!!!
    And to you DM's Get to know your employees and please make it a point to learn their names when you make a store visit .
    It's very rude to direct a person by the wrong name. It's the least you can do considering we are ones who work hard so you can receive your bonuses. I understand you have quotas to make and have to answer to your superiors but we also have quotas to fill and superiors to answer to with one exception - we have to deal with the public. Some extremely rude which we are not to respond to
    because the customer is always right.
    Employees advice , " take heart and think of the hard workers who work for you for a change!" It will make for happy employees which will make for happy customers.

    joanns is a great work environment and has great staff. everyone is always super helpful. i always looked forward to going in.

    Cons

    when joanns is busy...joanns is busy. you definitely need to be able to work fast and efficiently. but worth it

    Unobtainable expectations, not enough payroll to staff the store correctly, inconsistency of DM between stores and visists.

    Advice to Management

    Back your store managers up better, they are the ones on the front line everyday busting their butts.
