    Pros

Generous with holidays and provide a week (or more) off with full pay between Christmas and New Year's along with fully paid benefits for full-time employees after 30 days.

    Cons

There is no consistency in how employee policies are implemented across departments - especially in handling/giving comp time for overtime hours when the "official" policy is no overtime. This leaves some workers doing more than their workload while others do significantly less. Employee handbook hasn't been updated in years so "official" policies are vague and seemingly change at the discretion of the leader's mood. Employees are asked to write their own job descriptions and evaluated based upon that description which may not be an accurate representation of current job duties as they may have changed since the original document was written. .

    Advice to Management

Understand the functions of every employee in your organization. Update your handbook to reflect current policy and make sure all managers are implementing the policies equally. Overtime is being entered so why not provide compensatory time for all, not just some and on a whim. Do employee evaluations on a timely basis (90 days, six moths, one year). Provide positive and negative feedback in between the evaluations so employees know how they stand and if they need to improve. If you want a team environment, make sure all employees feel they are part of a team. Eliminate rampant office gossip.

I worked at JWP Civitas Institute full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Provided a good introduction into the state policy world
    - Pretty open to letting you run with the projects you are interested in

    Cons

    - Low compensation, regardless of what you get done or bring to the table
    - Pervasive air of sexism by management
    - You are viewed as "negative" when suggesting different ways of doing things or areas that need improvement

    Advice to Management

Treat all employees with the same level of fairness, value women the same as men, and be open to constructive feedback from staff on how to improve efficiency.

    Advice to Management

Communicate, make decisions transparent, make goals, you can't "run n gun" policy at the least whim
