I have been working at Jackson Hewitt part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great bosses, and flexible hours. Everyone's very friendly and easy to work with. The offices always look professional. They have good printers and the office supplies is always well stocked.

    Cons

The computers are a little outdated, and there isn't really a storage space for extra supplies. There also isn't any spare cash on hand if people come in and don't have the exact amount for there taxes.

    Advice to Management

Have a storage unit central to all the offices and upgrade the computers. Keep a few dollars of spare cash at each office for customers that don't have the exact change.

I worked at Jackson Hewitt part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

tax class fairly simple then you get job
    tax training throughout tax season
One on one interactions with customers provides a personal experience
Ability to work around hours since it's part time

    Cons

low pay low hours starts out low then goes up during peak season only end of January to Mid February beware hours typical 20 hours or less most of the time
unprofessional attitudes amongst coworkers just a job to them
Some tax preparers will do fraudulent tax returns to please customers
High tax fees management just buys off customer by offering discount to complaining customers who are told to complain to get a discount off their tax fees.

    Advice to Management

Provide additional training in more advanced returns, pay employees better, be more realistic of the hours available; focus on more sophisticated taxpayers not low income taxpayers.

I have been working at Jackson Hewitt part-time

    Pros

They work with your availability if you have any. Good job for college students and people who don't "have to pay bills."

    Cons

Coworkers are not knowledgeable about the tax law and are very unethical. If you "need" the job this is not it as there are drastic changes in hours after February.

    Advice to Management

Prepare a better training program for tax preparers. Most tax preparers can't input tax returns beyond w-2s and dependents. Also work on your ethics part as the brand is known for fraudulent tax preparers (at least in the lower RGV it is).

    Pros

the ONLY reason I am still here is because of my clients.

    Cons

no room for growth. pay is very very low. serious lack of communication. when you ask for help there a very few people trained to help with difficult returns. management don't even do taxed or have knowledge neither does corporate. Its pretty disappointing.

    Advice to Management

lean taxes so you can be effective when employees seek direction. better teachers for tax school. give CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

I have been working at Jackson Hewitt part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Well if you're in the business for customer service and making people happy, being a tax preparer for Jackson Hewitt is definitely the job to have. There's nothing like letting people know that the government is giving them thousands of dollars in federal refunds that will brighten someones day.

    Cons

There's also those few bad customers that complain about filing fees and having to pay in to the government, but hey....refile that W4 worksheet and let the IRS take out some extra cash from federal, and everything will be groovy.

    Advice to Management

I think the current management is great. Just a few tips for when training class rolls around again next year. Please have someone that actually knows what they're doing teach the clash, so your future little bumble bees can actually learn a dang thang. Just saying.
