    Pros

In the position I learned a lot, I met a lot of interesting people, I got to develop and practice a lot of office skills, and the management and staff were extremely kind and supportive.

    Cons

It's only a seasonal position, the pay is low, and it's a difficult job.

    Advice to Management

More training for supervisors and managers and better resources when problems arise.

I worked at Jackson Hewitt full-time

    Pros

Some nice colleagues, some wonderful clients, some opportunities to increase tax knowledge.

    Cons

Systems not 100% operative/functioning from first to last day of season. Treatment of employees is the same -- largely condescending and dismissive-- whether you've been preparing returns for decades or are a HS grad being trained the basics. Reaching out to managers for overrides on the simplest issues/changes creates obstacles that can't finally be overcome. Business is lost for company and preparers.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging employees; fix your software issues during annual down-time and be ready to roll by August; treat your senior tax-advisers with respect they've earned and give all employees a more professional launch. You'll increase retention -- and revenues--dramatically.

I have been working at Jackson Hewitt full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Get to meet lots of people and have a chance to not only teach them more about taxes but you get to see some of the same people every year. The owner is always available to answer any questions. You have the opportunity to further your knowledge thru courses online. You are guaranteed work every year for a few months if you are unable to hold a FT job.

    Cons

If you are not a people person, this is not the job for you. It is imperative that you are able to explain tax law and get people to give you their most personal information.

    Advice to Management

I don't know about every franchise, but my franchise was well run. Always available, which is a necessity. Be involved in every office. Listen to communication, good and bad from staff. They are the ones involved in the everyday running of that particular place.
