I have been working at Jackson National Life

    Pros

Pay is good especially for new graduate. Lots of action so the day goes by fast.

    Cons

If you don't fit the culture you are not getting the job. If you aren't kissing up to middle management all day you are not getting promoted. Its hard to do your job when management needs so much attention. Everyone is trying to get promoted so they are all pulling each other down

I worked at Jackson National Life full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    1. Talented pool of people 2. Good benefits - 401(k) 3. Good working equipment for IT people - dual monitors, New sit/stand desk, bluetooth headset, new sleek laptops.

    Cons

    1. The work area even in the new building is very open and has a call-center look. 2. No work/life balance. 3. Matrix management is good for the company, but bad for the employee's personal growth. The manager that you are working with is not the manager that you report to. So, your work is not aligned with your goals. 4. Promotion is very hard unless you have someone to push your case forward. 5. There is a new...

    Advice to Management

    1. Respect the existing employees. Before you make big changes and implement new procedures/standards/systems every other day, talk to the employees who will actually be doing the work and not just your 'Yay-saying' direct reports. 2. The upper management in IT talk only to a select few. They don't try to interact with the developers at all. 3. Try to get employees to talk about their gripes and don't shove your decisions...

    Pros

    Cons

Middle management is poor. Promotion opportunities are very biased to a select few.

I have been working at Jackson National Life full-time for more than a year

    Pros

If you put in the time, they shoot money at you with a cannon and you never really have to worry about the stability of your employment. It's almost impossible to get fired. Great benefits. Reasonable salaries. Outside of the IT groups, the company seems to be pretty good at what they do. The company does great work towards improving the community, and encourages its employees to do the same. The company makes many...

    Cons

*Please note that this section applies specifically to the IT side of the company*: It's almost impossible to get fired. People who have no business going anywhere near a computer are put in charge of very important things, and the results are horrific. The company uses incredibly dated technology, and there's modernization projects that involve moving to technology that's over a decade old. Beyond that, the company subscribes...

    Advice to Management

Companies that are struggling to get a hold on distributed source control, test automation, and modern software development are not leaders in technology. Focus on what makes you money and what problems are unique to your business needs. For everything else, look to what the true leaders in those areas have already done. If you want to see far, stand on the shoulders of giants, rather than trying to build a complicated...

I worked at Jackson National Life full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

License Up. If you want to get into Finance, Jackson is a great place to start. They invest in their employees and will sponser you to get your financial licenses. They will even reimburse certain amounts for future education. Money. Out of school I made $50k my first year. By the time I left, I was approaching $80k. Great place to get going. Training. They have their act together and help with sales, product and...

Politics. Of course its corporate. Certain people get promoted, and others that are more qualified do not. I considered the people at Jackson my family, but could not support certain actions taken by senior management. If you like climbing the corporate ladder by "knowing" certain people and kissing up, you will be welcome. Middle Management. 4/5 of them will micromanage....

    Advice to Management

You are investing in your employees, good job. Stop micro-managing and increase transparency on why certain decisions are made. People feel empowered when they are kept in the loop.

    Pros

    Above average salary and benefits

    Cons

Hierarchical organization where the senior management makes outrageously high salaries and has a disdainful attitude to middle management and lower

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach - consider work life balance, welcome feedback and when on boarding new employees for goodness sake give them at least a minimal introduction to their new company

I have been working at Jackson National Life

    Pros

Fast moving, transitioning from a small company to a large company, decent salary, good benefits, great 401K, award-winning customer focus

    Cons

growing pains, no space to work in, cubicle land is shrinking, no room for a visitor in your cubicle, not employee focused, treat employees like cattle: If they don't perform, we'll just get another cow, middle management team steals your ideas and then kicks you out so they don't have to give credit where credit is due

    Advice to Management

Quit promoting people because they agree with you; if you expect your team to work til midnight, you better be there too.
