I worked at Jacobs Entertainment part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice office atmosphere, clear responsibilities and direction.

    Cons

Outdated facilities in an old building.

I worked at Jacobs Entertainment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed the Comped meals and the discounts at the coffee shop. Out on the casino floor you can run into all kinds of celebrities.

    Cons

Low pay as compared to comparable jobs in town, and no pay difference for someone who has eight years IT experience versus someone who has zero.

Getting woken up in the middle of the night for nonemergencies like password resets.

Upper management is incapable of having a calm, rational, respectful conversation with someone regarding performance and instead prefers to yell and curse at employees.

HR will not speak to you directly (you have to go through your manager) and they will fight to not honor any agreements in your offer letter.

High turnover in the department as compared to other IT departments.

    Nepotism.

    Advice to Management

Stop cursing at employees and learn how to have a professional conversation. As you expand convert to a 24 hour help desk. Change the culture to get rid of the good old boys club and the nepotism problems.

I have been working at Jacobs Entertainment full-time

    Pros

Multiple days off in a week if you're Surveillance.
    Good enough benefits.
    Family orientation.

    Cons

Attendance policy is a point system that renews only yearly.
Long distance for most to travel.
Dealing with ACE Express for most of the bus options.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the Point system, it fires good employees.

I worked at Jacobs Entertainment full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of challenges, and good people. Growing in Black Hawk. Buying more properties. Lots of opportunities coming. Look for future changes.

    Cons

Becoming very coporate, family type management leaving. As they buy more properties they keep consolidating the staff and having them cover more.

    Meet lots of people.
    Very hands-on.

    Cons

Sometimes understaffed, and you would be needed on your days off.

    Advice to Management

    Set more consistency with scheduling.

I worked at Jacobs Entertainment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

good working group, good working conditions, adequate pay and benefits. I an think of nothing else to list save that the guests are almost always pleasant.

    Cons

Mgmt doesn't consider the employees to be worthy of being a resource. The guests are somewhat unruly but in a mining town I suppose that is to be expected.

    Advice to Management

Pay considerably more attention to the employee's input and expressed concerns. Lighten up on the impression give on a "walk-through"

I worked at Jacobs Entertainment full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not too much of a blessing. Corporate Management is generous with regard to his dealing with the community and the senior local assets. He has arraigned to have GDW provide equipment, labor and finance to re-landscape the property used to provide a recreational place for people over 50; lunch, cards, occasional breakfast, music, (dancing, kettle band and piano player at noon.)

    Cons

Customer base is very unruly. The company is run by senior management whom I don't respect because he does not listen to staff as he should.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the staff needs and suggestions at least as much as to middle management.

I worked at Jacobs Entertainment full-time

    Pros

Jacobs entertainment is a great company. In regards to the Surveillance department you get great experience and develop the skills to advance greatly within the field.

    Cons

Management has bad attitude and likes to play favorites. The pay doesn't equate to the amount of work which other Surveillance rooms do. The pay is set at market level but the work product expected is far greater than the work product expected within the market. No room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Balance the work load and the pay. Stop trying to add more to the work load without increasing compensation. Start actually investing in your employees. Remove the bias from descion making.

I have been working at Jacobs Entertainment full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

If you would like to work for casinos, it is a great place to break in but that is it. They pay significantly less than industry standard.

    Cons

    it is a small casino
Pay is not comparable to industry standard
    Advertising is ineffective
    Low morale amongst employees
    Little Room for advancement

    Advice to Management

Spend more time on the service line, employees hate it
