I have been working at Jacobs full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company is inclusive and takes an interest in employee development, which is not true with all E&C firms. In general, I've been happier at Jacobs than I was at the other E&C firms I've worked. Jacobs is better at keeping people (on overhead activities) during periods of low utilization than other firms.

    Cons

The benefits (in my opinion) are not as good as offered by operating companies and the health insurance options, which seem to change every year, are not so good. Jacobs is self-insured. I suspect they make "discretionary" decisions about what they want to cover based on cost of claims. This suspicion is based on a (significant) claim I submitted that they refused to cover according to policy. Given the cost of healthcare expenses and claims, this is NOT a trivial compensation issue.

I have been working at Jacobs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Houston office works 4-10 schedule with Friday's off. Decent benefits: 401k with matching, high deductible health insurance with HSA, 3 weeks PTO. Mentoring programs for younger employees and those early in their careers. Older workers also valued.

    Cons

Downturn in oil and gas industry has seen a lot of work going oversees to reduce costs. I've heard the outsourced work is subpar. Layoffs are ongoing as of early 2017

    Advice to Management

Don't focus so much on cost reduction through outsourcing that quality of work suffers. A competitive pricing edge won't work for long if unhappy clients impact company reputation negatively. Listen to your project managers.

I worked at Jacobs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible schedules, paid overtime, great team with many talented staff and plentiful opportunities to work on challenging, high profile projects.

    Cons

Benefits are the bare minimum and health insurance is very expensive to cover a family. Not enough admin and marketing support, so engineers regularly do invoices, printing, proposals themselves which is inefficient and costly. Company takes great pride in their low overhead rate but employees suffer the consequences.

    Advice to Management

Pay less attention to the stock price and short-term profits and more to long-term growth of the talented employees that are your greatest asset.

    Pros

Solid Infrastructure company with potential for growth. Market share is growing and new leadership placing emphasis on infrastructure business

    Cons

Paperwork associated with publically traded company can be lengthy. Benefits could be better in regards to the companies providing the insurance.
