I worked at Jacobs as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company has some good basic engineering resources, not the best and not very well developed, but some excellent people nevertheless. The skid marks are with erratic business and corporate managers.

    Cons

These are hard times for all companies but some companies will adhere to basic principles of decency and ethics in business deals and some like Jacobs will not.

    Advice to Management

Review the practices of your business managers. Some cases of employee mistreatment and erratic business management decisions will come to light.

I have been working at Jacobs full-time

    Pros

Very nice people to work for. There are a lot of managers but that is to be expected in a large company. HR very helpful if problems questions cropped up.

    Cons

They could pay better when you take into account the overall pay for this region.

    Advice to Management

Be more involved in what fellow co-workers are doing, particularly those working for you.

I worked at Jacobs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice people to work with. Good benefits, growth depending on connections. Promotions were hard to come by, but it could be that I didn't have them. One was assigned to work downtown (main office) or elsewhere.

    Cons

There was a cozy corporate culture that meant that you had to be connected to be considered part of the in crowd. They where very nice about time-off, I didn't have extra perks but you could arrange to schedule hours worked around life at times. They did lack training opportunities, that they could improve.

    Advice to Management

Help employees more by offering more training opportunities. The corporate culture needs to be more open.

I have been working at Jacobs full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The work is Challenging and rewarding. Everyone seems to work well together and everyone is treated fairly. The management is very good from the top the the lowest level. Safety is a top priority. And the pay is very good with good raises each year. The benefits are average.

    Cons

Jacobs Technology is heavy into government contracts, when the federal budgets go down, so goes business. Aside from the government, there is little other business.

    Advice to Management

    diversify the customer base

    Pros

For those that don't shy away from hard work, you will enjoy working here. Hard work is recognized and rewarded with great compensation and exciting projects. Long-term employment is prevalent with this company. There are many people with 30 and 40 year careers still working for the company. Turnover is very low.

    Cons

There are not very many opportunities for step-function growth. For those that start with JT in their early career, the climb is long and perhaps a bit impossible. The best place to enter JT is in mid-management, when you are confident in your trade and ready to take on more.

    Advice to Management

Try to find ways to grow (and recognize growth) in more junior employees so they don't need to leave to make those larger leaps in their career.
Keep doing a great job recognizing project sucesses and making hard work rewarding.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing the Culture of Caring and continue focus outside of just safety with that mindset. Proud of this company.
