Average major corporation experience
Oct 3, 2016 - Junior Field Engineer in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Opportunity to work on a massive project and experience many different aspects of the transportation infrastructure construction environment. Got a first-hand experience at the complexities of working on jobs with many different contractors and consultants working together and on different components of the overall project.
Cons
Aside from HR orientation and signing a bunch of onboarding forms on Day 1, I never was contacted by anyone from Jacobs until I put in my notice of resignation. As a very young engineer I was tossed into the field with zero direction from Jacobs managers or other personnel.

No Carrier Growth - No One Cares About You or Your Carrier Goals

The work is super easy and not challenging
Cons
Only the extreme few will ever get promoted. No carrier path direction. The work environment is cliques and dismal. No matter how hard you work and show your grit, you will never get anywhere in the company. Management is M.I.A. all the time, you can see them in body but the spirit is gone. Your manager is a person either afraid to let you shine or don't want to be bothered, most managers are outdated and have not evolved with time.

Project Engineer Review (PE)
Oct 18, 2019 - Project Engineer in Dallas, TXRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good and friendly work environment. Job is stable and the projects are typically large. You will learn how to work with a group of other disciplines in order to finish a project. Big company, so there are always others to assist if you get overloaded. Offers Jacobs Go, the ability to work abroad for 6 months in another Jacobs office.
Cons
You get stuck in one discipline. This company almost always hires from outside instead of promoting from within. Typically, people do not have time to train you and you are often left to learn yourself. Projects are team based, and it is hard to get people to work together for the most practical solution as people do not want to change what they have done.

Pros
Decent offices and overall a good group of people to work with. The money is on or above market rate depending on your experience and the clients and projects Jacobs have and work on are ok.
Cons
The culture is shocking. The work environment is stale and nigh on toxic in some areas. Constant restructures where a lot of people are being made redundant doesnt help. No learning and development opportunities for graduates and most employees. No investment in systems and technology. People do not come first, and most people know it.

Covid has really driven home how little this company care for its employees
May 27, 2021 - Civil Engineer in Dublin, DublinRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Ability to work on various projects. Access to people with broad knowledge. In normal times the ability to transfer between offices when there are openings is great.
Cons
While the opportunity is there you are likely to be stuck in the same project or few projects for years giving you little to no diversity in terms of your job. Jacobs also provides little to no continuous education or training so if you're looking to get chartered and want CPD in different categories you're not getting it from Jacobs. That is something you are expected to figure out yourself, instead of them recommending or offering training and courses to you like elsewhere. Covid has also driven home just how little this company cares about the staff. In the first few weeks they rejected the notion that they should have to provide any monetary support because 'you should be seeing savings from commuting', ignoring that many cycle to work at no cost and that young recruits aren't paid very well. It took them over half a year to recognize that people might need equipment other than their laptop, having told staff in March of 2020 that nothing but the laptop and charger leaves the office. Nobody in management have ever asked what staff might need to effectively work from home, or if people have a suitable space to work from at home. After all, it's not their problem that your kitchen chair gives you back ache because you didn't establish a home office. They've completely abandoned their staff and given up on their duty to ensure staff have a safe work environment. While other employers will provide you equipment and funds to maybe buy a desk or other things that might be needed, Jacobs will not offer a single cent. After all, your savings from your free commute should pay for whatever you need! Extremely disappointed with management over the last year. At least pretend to care like.
