Pros
  • culturally diverse, 1199 benefits (in 2 reviews)

  • train and bus stops on the same block as the hospital, Easy going management if you do your job (in 2 reviews)

Cons
  • High nurse: patient rations, 1:7 on average, always short staffed, missing basic supplies such as butterfly needles and IV fluids (in 2 reviews)

  • Potentially a pro, management seems to be not so concerned with micromanagement oversight so small mistakes will go unnoticed (in 2 reviews)

    Pros

You will definitely learn, everything u need to know, as those patients are not a walk in the park, dont get comfortable, learn all you can, gain your experience and move on.

    Cons

What they did to the LPNs there was just so disrespectful, all the demotion to pca position was on called for, yes they want that magnet status, and moving in a different directions, meaningful position was not created, an as a result some chose to resigned, some took position that was not in thieir scope just to feed their families sometimes I wonder how these ppl, sleep at night, can never work for any institution that treat human beings like that, they were useful for years, now this new management figured they were disposable, and I have learned so much from them when I was a new grad.this new management cause so much division, heartache and tears, just remember what goes around comes around.

    Advice to Management

If u treat your nurses right they will not leave, many just want to get their experience and leave, all the great nurses are being recruited to mt sinai, their is so much turn over, its ridiculous, not everyone can handle the dynamics of the population, when ppl get sick and come to the hospital they need to see diversity

    Pros

Nice place to work per-diem. Supervisors were approachable & most had good people skills.

    Cons

Management has no idea how to communicate with employees. Last minute mandatory training, & constant threat of take this class immediately -- or get taken off the schedule. Countless times sent important paperwork to the manager or training officer, & would get misplaced or lost (all while being threatened to get taken off the schedule).

    Advice to Management

Learn how to be a leader & not a bully. Stop hiding in your office, don't take a position because it has a nice "title" & try setting an example instead.

I have been working at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The hospital is closer to my home so the commute is not bad. It's just trying to find parking in the parking lot thats hectic

    Cons

There are some employees that will do what ever they need to do for the patients. But theirs those that just want a paycheck and do nothing all day.

    Advice to Management

They should learn to listen to their staff.

    Pros

Many helpful staff members in hospital
Location is ideal for most staff
    Fair benefits
Good staff to work with in immediate office

    Cons

Poor administration - they go day by day burying their head in the sand . They do not address daily issues --going on for years. Need change in CEO/COO in order to get new blood in mamagement

    Advice to Management

Retire and let some new and progressive ideas be put in place. Hospital will never improve unless new people address old & ongoing issues.
