    Pros

Fast pace, learn a lot. Nurses are mostly willing to help one another. Good place to start. 1199 union.

    Cons

Low salary compared to nearby hospitals. A great deal of nepotism. Minimal tuition reimbursement with so much red tape to get many forgo it.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The hours are very flexible. The benefits are pretty good as well. 12 sick days, 4 personal days, and 10 vacation days a year.

    Cons

Highly unprofessional. Many of the staff members are under trained before permitted to work. Issues are hardly ever taken serious and you will be reprimanded if you report them.

    Advice to Management

Better forms of upward mobility. More transparency when it comes to policies and changes. Better forms of communication so that staff can present ideas and concerns in an environment where they would not be reprimanded for having them.

I worked at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Epic system, 1199 benefits very rare to find the good nurse who actually cares only a few good nurses and PCAs and supervisors. New head of nursing making changes.

    Cons

Beware new nurses stay away. Management: discrimination against certain cultures in a sly sneaky way no one can prove. All they care about is food and parties. Truly feel sorry for new grads all they want is to get the 1 year experience and get out of there. Certain mangers bully nurses to the point where they transfer to a different unit or leave completely. Upper management is completely clueless to what happens on the units. They break new nurses spirits here.

    Advice to Management

If you truly want good Patient outcomes treat your employees with the utmost respect. Happy nurses equals good patient care and satisfied patients. Advice to New head of nursing: place a nurse on each unit without the unit managers knowing so they can report back everything they see going on on the units between managers and their treatment of staff nurses and PCAs that is the only way you will reveal their true colors and find out who is a good manager and who is just awful.
