I worked at James G. Davis Construction full-time

    Pros

DAVIS really values its employees. Very generous with Operations Team, but unfortunately way less with the "overhead" (anyone not Ops). Believe in good Education for employees. Very organized in their hiring process. Great location.

    Cons

If you are not in Ops team will have to work really long hours, for low salaries.
Required attendance to Annual Saturday education day.

    Pros

    Great Benefits,
Team Environment- every group I interact with is so
proud to be a part of DAVIS HR or DAVIS Marketing
Leadership team is approachable and amazing

    Cons

Some processes can be a little old-fashioned
5 years to get any additional vacation can be a Sting if you are giving up a lot from elsewhere

    Advice to Management

Maybe consider some work from home capabilities a day or two a month, construction can be a 24/7 job, let’s acknowledge that.

I worked at James G. Davis Construction full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Incredible people and culture, it's no surprise DAVIS is consistently voted Best Places to Work year after year. Worked with some of the most passionate, intelligent and caring people. You will meet lifelong colleagues here.
    - Small enough company to pivot easily, large enough to consistently compete with national firms. Punches well above its weight class.
    - Many perks: compensation package attractive, nice bonus structure, continually strengthening their great training program, cultivates an interest in its employees and regularly provides them with opportunities to grow, socialize with industry peers, and generally be the best they can be.
    - Leadership team is AWESOME. They know every name in the company and support every one of their employees. I felt right at home working in the DAVIS family.
    - They're constantly growing. Huge opportunities for the company and employee alike.

    Cons

    - There's plenty of work to go around, everyone stays very busy with day-to-day tasks, leaving little time to focus on process improvements. Data silos still exist, but are continually improving.
    - Work life balance in this industry is tough and DAVIS is no exception, but the DAVIS culture works well to alleviate this.

    Advice to Management

Hardly any, it's such a great place. Would come back if I could.
That being said, continue to break down data silos, there are opportunities for efficiency gains. The Corporate Knowledge Center is doing a great job with this, incorporate more Ops lessons into these classes.
Can't wait to see where DAVIS is in 10 years!

    Pros

The personnel at DAVIS Construction is second to none in the local market. Could not have asked for a better experience learning and developing as a professional in the first few years out of school.

    Cons

None that don’t benefit professional growth.

I have been working at James G. Davis Construction full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Excellent healthcare & benefits, quick promotions, ESOP profit sharing, 16 PTO days in the first 5 years, 21 days a year after that, easy transfer ability throughout the company if you're interested in another department, community and family values

    Cons

Some promotions due to time given to the company and not actual talent or need, company could use more streamlining throughout project teams to avoid learning curve on each new job assigned

    Pros

Latest technology, diversity, high safety standards, cook outs, happy hours, variety of jobs, free coffee, Lots of experienced go workers, some willing to help.

    Cons

Long hours, lots of egos, low pay. The only way you can get anywhere within Davis is to be there a long time. Your prior experience means nothing.

    Advice to Management

Support your staff more. Have some encouragement instead of constantly belittling. Be more aware of your team members skill sets and promote accordingly.

I have been working at James G. Davis Construction full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great support system to help employees succeed. A company that will reward you for doing the right thing, not just the most profitable thing.

    Cons

Different operations groups act as independent companies, missing opportunities to share insights and avoid repeating others leg work or knowledge building. All white office space can be hard on the eyes

    Advice to Management

No major complaints. It’s rare to find a company to be proud of in this day and age and Davis is one.
