I have been working at James G. Davis Construction full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The leadership at DAVIS (both executive and VP level) genuinely care about the well-being and growth opportunity of their employees. The company does what it can to give its employees opportunity to succeed. Most of the leadership is "home grown" which helps send the message that all employees have an opportunity to advance.

    Cons

The construction industry is stressful and often requires unusual / long hours. This is true across the industry, not just with DAVIS.

I worked at James G. Davis Construction full-time for more than a year

    Pros

DAVIS really does try to treat employees like family, for better or worse. The benefits (ESOP, bonuses, health insurance, on the job training, etc) are top tier and they are progressive in the way they want manage work and their people. They're also trying to implement more worker friendly business practices like telecommuting and IT self service. If you can survive for 10+ years here you'll be set financially.

    Cons

Once the honeymoon period was over it was clear that you would only advance if your vision aligned with leadership and your manager. This was often hard to find out other than the hard way since business plans were kept secret and direction from managers was inconsistent/conflicting. Feedback was encouraged but rarely resulted in any changes or even a reasonable explanation why it was ignored. This left many feeling under appreciated despite the compensation packages which were smaller for the front line employees than upper management who were handsomely rewarded for profitable business plans. Also be careful to not fall into the "undesirable" category in your respective department. They tend to treat those individuals like mushrooms (keep in the dark, feed them garbage) and then act surprised and/or vindictive when they have high turnover.

I worked at James G. Davis Construction full-time for more than a year

    Pros

*Most employees are nice genuine people *Good work life balance *Dogs can come in on Fridays

    Cons

    * If you are placed under a bad PM you are going to have a bad time I was under a PM that did not develop me in the position, he would turn a blind eye until he had something to scrutinize. Rather than develop me in the roll he was looking for slip ups to jump on.
