I have been working at Jan-Care Ambulance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great family owned and operated company with a lot of vision towards growth and ongoing education for their employees.

    Cons

They have a monopoly in the market in WV so they pay their employees pretty low. A lot of their field employees go on to higher paying positions pretty quickly.

    Pros

The call volume is low in the outlying areas and the paychecks made the bills. The field employees, for the most part, was good to work with although there seemed to be an above average amount of backstabbing.

    Cons

The lower level management members were constantly threatening the field employees positions to force them to work extra shifts due to the fact that there was not enough to cover day time shifts and the upper level management turned a blind eye to the threats. Basically, it all comes down to the FACT that it will always be about putting the maximum amount of money into the owners' pockets while doing the lower level employees as wrong as possible. And, unless you are a family member of the owners or you are willing to bow to their every command, you will NEVER advance in the company. The owners CLAIM to have family at heart and yet, unless you are willing to work EVERY time they expect you to, you will spend a lot of time with that family because you will be unemployed. Jan Care doesn't care about anyone but it's owners and their families, not it's employees and theirs.

    Advice to Management

Grow up and put people in positions of authority that are NOT going to make threats and stop saying that you are "doing people favors by ALLOWING them to work in a position when no one else wants it". A business shouldn't be a place where a job is threatened on a DAILY basis. This is NOT a business I will EVER recommend.

    Pros

Will help with schedule if need be. Used to unlimited hours now lucky to get 40 a week. Get to travel. Day shift it night or 24s

    Cons

Management don't care. Loss of hours. Paycheck a getting screwed up all the time. Will cut you hours without notice. Will dock your hours if they want off your check and not tell you

I have been working at Jan-Care Ambulance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Health, vision, dental insurance as crappy as it can be; paid vacation after a year; constantly available overtime

    Cons

Horrible management, low pay, employees are just warm bodies on the trucks, high turnover rate, poor equipment and equipment maintenance, no respect for off times or other personal restraints.

    Advice to Management

Learn from Rick Sr about why the company was started in the first place. Treat your employees better and place the patients first instead of the money. Don't let just anyone be in charge of something just because of their last names.

I worked at Jan-Care Ambulance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They are a good place for new EMT'S to get experience in convalescent transports, but that is about it...

    Cons

Disrespectful towards families and their employees. Lack of discipline in management. Pay is considerably higher but you have to work 100 hours a week or more.

    Advice to Management

Raise the starting wages and work the employees less. Learn to say NO when it comes to certain rediculous long distant transport. And most of all actually take the time to listen to your employees and follow through with promises that are made.

I worked at Jan-Care Ambulance full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Yearly pay is well above average for paramedics in this state, large company so opportunity to work in diverse areas and aspects of the industry.

    Cons

Pushy management that tends to bully employees, hours required to work are also well above average in the state.

    Advice to Management

Not all of your employees are idiots, and Corporate HQ is not the seat of universal wisdom. Listen to your employees, and above all obey the labor laws and rules on workplace injuries.

I worked at Jan-Care Ambulance full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Free training, good managers, paid vacation, they push you, they are the largest ambulance company in wv,you will have a chance to move up because they are always needing management.

    Cons

Poor work life balance, the hours are horrible, the pay is low so you are forced to work over seventy hours a week just to get a decent paycheck.

    Advice to Management

Better pay so that employee do not have to give their lives up to earn a living
