I worked at Jasculca/Terman as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

-AAs got the opportunity to attend events outside of the office, which made it nice to get a break from being in the office
-If you work the hours, you get the over time. Most agencies do not allow their interns to get paid over time, but here, if you work, they want you to be fairly compensated; they also reimburse AAs for expenses like uber, food, etc. And again, alot of firms dont offer this
-Direct contact with higher senior level staff (VPs)
-Opportunity to work with other AAs, so there is a free flow of information and chance to ask each other questions

    Cons

-Very strong political views and discussions within the office which I think is unprofessional; as to be expected, they are a public affairs firm in Chicago

-Great way to get your foot in the door at an agency, but almost zero chance of being hired on full time

I have been working at Jasculca/Terman full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

You will work with well-known clients, both corporate and nonprofit.
Senior staff is full of industry experts willing to give insights and share knowledge.
Supportive and enthusiastic team that is committed to their work and each other.
Great location in city and comfortable, welcoming office environment.

    Cons

Tough to land a full-time position. (Fantastic place to be and people know it.)
    Upward mobility difficult.
    Moderately competitive rates of pay/salaries.

    Advice to Management

Expansion seems plausible; could lead to more new business and take some of the load off busy staff members if there were more full-time account employees.

    Pros

Great environment. Intern coordinators are amazing/great mentors and role models.

    Cons

No opportunity to advance which is a shame because so many AA's want to stay and start a career here. Maybe hire some new JAE's and have fewer AA's.

    Pros

Pretty structured internship program - they're upfront with what they expect out of you and try to give some development opportunities to their interns beyond just work experience.

They pay you more than minimum wage plus more for over time and are timely with reimbursements for travel, etc., not always common for internships in this discipline especially with smaller companies

You will work with interesting, diverse clients. You will gain real-life public relations experience.

There are some cool people who work here who have done some cool stuff in their professional lives. Something to take advantage of. Talk to people.

    Cons

I worked with some awesome people who were very hands-on, but I got vibes from fellow interns that their experience with coworkers was less awesome - their supervisors were distant, didn't show any interest in them, were unfriendly, etc. I think experience probably varies based on who you're working with - this is probably true in any internship though.

    Advice to Management

the CEO's son was unnecessarily rude to interns several times, not cold or unfriendly but actually rude - this was a shared experience by almost every intern in my group. It was unexpected and unprofessional; the only sour part of an otherwise pleasant experience. Interns never expect special treatment or even demand acknowledgement of their work, but they do deserve to be and should be treated with respect - especially since they actually do play a role in helping things at JT run smoothly.

I worked at Jasculca/Terman as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

For the most part, there was always work to do. We were brought into meetings which was nice, because then we were in the loop and felt a part of the team.

    Cons

There wasn't much room for interns to stay on and acheive a full-time position. But they do bring back interns to work there even if it's been a while, they do remember the hard work you put in.

I have been working at Jasculca/Terman as an intern

    Pros

Casual dress, young office, relaxed atmosphere with no micromanaging, support in job searches

    Cons

Fewer writing assignments, no job guarantee

    I worked at Jasculca/Terman full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-As an intern (AA) you get a lot of great experience.
-They are really flexible with time off.
-As a JAE you get a lot of client-facing time and really learn on the fly how to deal with difficult clients.

    Cons

-Pay is horrible. I actually don't know how people live on what they pay.
-Office culture is non-existent. People stay in their offices and do not mentor younger staffers at all.
-You will not be appreciated for the long hours your work.
-I actually left feeling depressed. It just isn't a fun place to work and people seem to hate their lives there.
-Everyone who works there has been there forever. That means there is no new blood and their tactics and campaigns are kind of stale.
-They do not hire AAs at all. Work as hard as you want, but they will not hire you.
-You are often thrown into difficult situations with no guidance. You need to be smart on your own, don't expect senior support.

    Advice to Management

-Hire people! You need to hire young and experienced people. PR is changing rapidly and your whole staff only has experience at JT. You need to hire people outside of your bubble to continue to grow.
-Revamp your "HR department." Basically no one knows what the rules are. Employees have no idea what their benefits are because they aren't clearly laid out or respected by management. Plus, there is really no one to go to with complaints of any kind which makes working at JT stressful and unsatisfying
-Provide some formal training to your staff. There is no new learning going on within JT. People need training on new tactics and PR tools.

I worked at Jasculca/Terman as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Exposure to many different types of tasks and important clients. Great variety, pretty exciting. Good experience - they really train you to work for difficult clients and people.

    Cons

Crying-in-your-milk, soul-sucking depression. Practically a sweatshop - they tell you up front when you interview for an account assistant (intern) position that you probably wont get hired after your three months is up. The only way to even consider getting hired on is to start as an intern. Rampant favoritism and nepotism, although the CEO's son is pretty cool.

    Advice to Management

Hire some decent account assistants and pay them a living wage instead of cycling through and staggering several dozen every three months.

I worked at Jasculca/Terman as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Great learning experience.
Opportunity to work very unique and interesting events.
Management takes time to speak with you about the internship program.

    Cons

Will work a minimum of 50 Hour weeks
It's very hard to get a permanent position

    Advice to Management

Offer more opportunities for account assistants to grow.

    Pros

    -Senior staff knows their stuff
-You'll meet and make great connections if you're smart and savvy about getting in good with the right people.
-The staff is ethical and creative with their clients' needs, no shifty PR stunts and coverups at this firm.
-Great place to work and move on after 2 years
-Good balance of old and young staffers

    Cons

-Pay is well below industry average
-If you don't like working with people who LIVE for cliques, don't work here
-Knowing someone (as opposed to performance) will get you promoted faster than doing a great job
-Some of the middle managers are borderline obsessive with their 24-hr schedules and they expect the same from you. Forget having a life that doesn't revolve around JT.
-If you have an issue with your direct manager, good-luck finding an empathetic or impartial ear.

    Advice to Management

Give more attention to a HUMAN RESOURCES department and hiring middle managers who will manage well... There's a huge lack of people-management skills in middle management. There have been plenty of staffers who start off great but eventually leave the firm because their Sr. AE was a problem.
