I have been working at Jawbone full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Smart people Interesting problems Lots of opportunity for ownership Access to executives

    Cons

Everything is constantly changing Currently a lot of the best talent is transitioning out Executive leadership has challenges making decisions Pay is less competitive than other similar companies

    Advice to Management

Make clear and concise decisions. Do more to make your A players happy. While the talk about opportunity is great, you need to pay more competitively.

I have been working at Jawbone

    Pros

This company is filled with smart people, game changing products and learning opportunities everywhere you look. Free lunch, fun happy hours, dog friendly!

    Cons

There's always room for improvement with our culture. Creating more opportunities to interact with each and every team will help improve genuine camaraderie across the company.

    Advice to Management

Continue having open communication and transparency with employees. Monthly All Hands meetings are a great way to stay in tune with both successes and challenges.

I worked at Jawbone full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Free food every day, lots of really smart people, great compensation, flexible schedule and uncapped vacation, freedom to work in SF or Sunnyvale for most people, used to make really cool products, used to be really fun.

    Cons

Went off the rails a while ago: stopped making headsets and speakers in favor of health bands (at least Oprah likes them); gotta be the world's oldest startup (17 years?), and the odd terms of the latest funding effort suggest that the well has run dry; two rounds of layoffs within 6 months (June and November 2015) - 19% total; rumors that more are coming, and that the Sunnyvale location might close. No fun.

    Advice to Management

Don't kiss the products that made you famous goodbye. Keep a headset in the pipeline, and keep at least one Bluetooth speaker going - you invented that market, after all.

    I worked at Jawbone full-time

    Pros

Company as a whole working on tackling tough problems and creating elegant solutions. Generally, culture is work hard play hard. A lot of very smart people, great office, nice perks, and thr

    Cons

Management seemed to be drowned in politics and talking as opposed to doing. There were lots of "VPs" and the direction was not always clear to the lower ranks. Leadership often talked about how great things were when it was clear that the company was being challenged in various ways.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent about strategy and overall decision making. Let the "lower" ranks participate or at least know about key decisions.

I worked at Jawbone full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great product which has an ecosystem far superior to the competition. Some very smart people work there and are great to work with.

    Cons

Too far behind to catch up with competitors, management make the same mistakes over and over and blame everyone but themselves. Unrealistic goal setting, top down management with knee jerk reactions to issues.

I have been working at Jawbone for more than a year

    Pros

    * Building hardware and software experiences: Unique opportunity to work with hardware / firmware / software / platform engineers to push bounders on every end of the stack. * Constantly redefining the business (pro): Jawbone has the unique past of constantly pushing into new businesses. On the pro side, the company takes big swings to push the future. * Smart people: The company has many smart people that you enjoy...

    Cons

    * Long decision times: In certain instances it has taken senior management too long to make a decision, leaving people to infer one. It's nice when the working team gets it right, sucks when we get it wrong. This has improved with Sameer's recent arrival but this change is still new so tbd. * Constantly redefining the business (con): Jawbone has the unique past of constantly pushing into new businesses. Advice to Management

Jawbone has a unique vision and opportunity. Management should plot a clear course for how we get there, continue hiring great people, get rid of the negative people, and deliver for our customers.

I have been working at Jawbone

    Pros

    - Free lunch, snacks and beers every once in a while - Work with plenty of smart people - If you're great at re-building broken businesses then this would be your ideal place to work

    Cons

    - Really bad people managers and executive leadership. They keep trying to fix these things but can't seem to get anything right. - So many worthless meetings for you to spend your entire day in with little or no agenda. - Very high turnover. Projects keep starting and stopping because of it.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of Hosain - he's poison to the company. Start listening to your employees if you're interested at all in fixing the company.

    I worked at Jawbone full-time

    Pros

Smart people, fun products, interesting problems to work on.

    Cons

Totally mismanaged. Leadership team doesn't have the previous experience necessary to do their jobs. The fumbles are embarrassing. Incompetence combined with unbelievable hubris is a lethal combination.

    Advice to Management

Bring in leadership with the experience needed to build a competitive company.

    Pros

Great opportunities with potentially massive impact on the world. Beautiful products that people do like a lot. Smart people, many of whom have become very close friends.

    Cons

Terrible culture, lack of focus, senior management very divided from the rest of the company and doing a very poor job communicating their vision (if there is one).
