I worked at Jean Coutu part-time

    Pros

Like a small family at the pharmacy I worked at. Everyone was close. Work was not hard. There was also some time to talk to staff which as nice.

    Cons

There was a lot of tension between staff. Led to a lot of pointless arguments. work could be a bit repetitive at times.

    Advice to Management

Work more on building team culture. The pharmacist is the owner and a good leader, but did not play much of a role with the team to settle differences.

I worked at Jean Coutu full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Jean Coutu is a very organized, friendly and positive work environment. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there as a Laboratory Technician. The supervisors trained me well and provided me many chances to improve and progress in my learning of the job. Speaking in French was mandatory and I improved my French there as well.

    Cons

At the busy pharmacy, there was a lot of pressure to perform perfectly and quickly. There was indeed a lot of clients and we were told to make sure everything was accurate and correct, which is reasonable in the healthcare field. However, as a beginner I felt I had a lot to learn everything in a small amount of time, and was sometimes put in a situation that I was not ready for (being put to work in a role that I was not well trained in yet).

    Advice to Management

When your new employees make a mistake, please do not lecture them. Try to find out their strengths and focus on their strengths so that they have the confidence to improve on their weaknesses. I found that when I was lectured and told that my mistakes could cause someone's death, it decreased my confidence and I was even more nervous, thus causing more mistakes. Being able to learn first before being expected to perform perfectly would have been better.
