I worked at Jeffboat full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Been employed for 3 years, the money with overtime is great and being with maintenance I dont endure the harsh conditions as most production workers. The atmosphere was ok, some friendly people and some loonies, but plenty of steady work.

    Cons

Jeffboat itself! Poor communication with management with anything. Certain company personnel dont care much about you or your family, its jeffboat first! You are just a number!

    Advice to Management

Care more about the union employees!

I worked at Jeffboat full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great pay, union job, working on various things over a course of time.

    Cons

outside elements, welding burns, air quality inside barges, generally dangerous place, possibly 6-7 day weeks.

    Advice to Management

If you know what you are getting into, it's a great place to work, I had the basics of welding, but JeffBoat trained and certified me among many others to qualify to work in the yard on barges and ships. I don't really know much to tell management, as the nature of the job is indeed dangerous, but possibly replacing electric lead lines more often as they are the cause of many electric shocks due to tears and general wear. Another thing, many barges have so many power boxes to plug into, sometimes a few are broken or disabled. Leaving one to spend a massive about of time searching for multiple lead lines, up and down the stairwells plugging in down below. Same with gas lines, the gas hook ups are far and few between, leaving lines running everywhere, creating more hazards.

I have been working at Jeffboat full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Jeffboat offers very competitive wages and benefits for the southern Indiana area. Overtime is usually available for those willing to work. Also, Jeffboat has been in operation since 1938 showing longevity.

    Cons

Overtime is probably the number one con for Jeffboat as the amount of overtime worked usually exceeds the desire of most people. Inconsistent work schedules due to outside work and weather also lead to widely varying work loads from week to week.

    Pros

The people that have been there more than 6 years are very good people they should be listened too more.

    Cons

The people that have experiance are not listened too. Upper management tried to manage from a playbook and not from what works for the industry.

    Advice to Management

Learn the industry and stop trying to learn how to run a company from a book. Your lean manufacturing was done so poorly. All the IT's that came from wallbash should be fired. listen to the old timers they know first hand what works and what doesn't. My Advice would be to find the old management that left over the years and ask for help.

    Pros

Insurance was cheap and reasonable. People you worked with were fun. Very hard to say any thing else positive about job.

    Cons

Hours were horriable. Dont expect to see your family ever. Work is very hot and managment is terriable. they expect you to work as hard when it is 60 degrees as when it is 90
