I worked at Jefferson County Public Schools (Kentucky) full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working with students, high salary and good benefits compared to other districts, fun working environment, and great direct supervisors

    Cons

Upper management decisions have impacted the effectiveness of classroom instruction, not enough funds for many activities for students because of use on other things

    Advice to Management

Turn the focus back on the students and put more time and resources into programs like ESS and other after school activities.

I have been working at Jefferson County Public Schools (Kentucky) part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working directly with kids is both a pro and a con, but primarily positive. Classroom work is extremely fulfilling. Decent pay and good benefits help as well.

    Cons

Very little support from the community and in many cases from within the organization. It's easy to become jaded. No support for part-time staff that has no income during the summer months.

    Advice to Management

Check in with your staff consistently. Be visible. Get to know the kids, even if you don't work directly with them. Try to keep in touch with the backbeat of school culture.
