Startup Navigating Tough Times
May 11, 2023 - Senior Manager in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I have been a proud employee at Jellysmack for over two years, and I can confidently say that it is an exceptional workplace that fosters creativity, personal growth, and adaptability. The emphasis on agility and staying ahead of the curve has positioned Jellysmack as a frontrunner in the industry. Even in the face of adversity, the team at Jellysmack comes together to support one another, problem-solve, and deliver exceptional results for clients.
Cons
One of the challenges I have encountered is the fast-paced nature of the industry. Deadlines can be tight, and the workload can be demanding at times. While Jellysmack provides support and resources to manage work effectively, there may be instances where balancing multiple projects can be stressful. To stay ahead, Jellysmack requires employees to continuously stay updated with industry trends and adapt their strategies accordingly. This constant need for innovation and flexibility can create a sense of pressure to perform at a high level consistently.

Pros
Marketing Expert Review: As a marketing expert, I am absolutely in love with Jellysmack! The company culture is simply amazing - everyone is passionate about their work and dedicated to delivering top-quality content. The fast-paced environment keeps me on my toes, and I'm constantly learning new things. The industry itself is fascinating and constantly evolving, and Jellysmack is at the forefront of it all. I feel fortunate to work for a company that values creativity and innovation as much as I do. Jellysmack is an incredible place to work. The growth opportunities here are truly endless. The creator economy is exploding, and Jellysmack is right in the thick of it all. I'm thrilled to be working for a company that is making such a huge impact on the industry. But what really sets Jellysmack apart is the people. Everyone is friendly, supportive, and passionate about what they do. I feel lucky to be a part of this team.

Was good while it lasted.

- 100% remote - Used to be an amazing team culture (before everyone got laid off) - Interesting/varied work - Generally v. empathetic managers
Cons
- The company aspired to be "agile", but in practice this meant a total lack of coordination and poor communication between teams. The gap between theory and practice was enormous. - Key people who made things work were fired and never replaced around mid-2022, leading to progressively worse problems in understanding what was going on at any given time. Client databases on Monday were left without being updated, and finding out the status of a client involved a mix of guesswork and asking several people. - They invented a replacement for Monday but then kept using it, meaning that all work was done simultaneously on two completely different platforms. - 2021 Jellysmack was fun and full of possibilities. 2022 Jellysmack was a car crash inside a dumpster fire. They thought they were going to be the next Netflix and overexpanded, then did a screeching 180-degree turn, outsourced everyone's jobs and fired the rest. Bloodbath of really good and talented people. - The pay honestly wasn't great and career opportunities were negligible.

Learning and growing opportunities
Apr 17, 2023 - Sales ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I spent a couple of years at Jellysmack and I can't believe how much trust they have in their employees. I had the opportunity to work on amazing deals with huge creators, and they really let me take care of everything. There's also a great culture of feedback and support, so you get to learn and grow as a professional and as a person. Yes, the company has experienced some setbacks, like many other companies. It doesn't make it a bad company, it makes it a realistic one who does what it takes to live.
Cons
Difficult communication between teams all over the world

Two massive layoffs in less than 1 year
Apr 24, 2023 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Remote office, good benefits, most people are nice, WeWork membership
Cons
- Company aggressive hiring in 2022 and laying off most of these employees before the EOY, playing with the livelihood of some many people and their families. - Many silos within the company. Teams doing the same/similar work and not even being aware of it, resulting in duplicated or contradicting work. - Business strategy constantly changing, leaving teams confused with no clear direction.
