I worked at Jeppesen full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There really weren't very many pros by the time I moved on

    Cons

    Management had no solid direction
Employees were left wondering what they should do most of the time
They would not recognize that keeping the existing business running was IMPORTANT
Strategies were continually changing, wasting lots of hours of employees' time

    Advice to Management

Figure out what the direction is going to be and go for it.
Reward your people for keeping the existing (money-making) business going

    Pros

    Great work / life balance.

    Cons

Leadership has been replaced by mid level Boeing managers. While often very nice these guys are not software visionaries. In fact many of them make very poor choices then blame the teams for underperforming.

    Advice to Management

Stop making the same mistakes over and over. Hold poor leaders accountable. Stop it with lame technology decisions, dont trust anyone that says building 55's datacenter can be fixed. And really... Call in ethics to see what is going on with Azure.

    Pros

International Experience. Culturally diverse team. Front line employees work toward common goal.

    Cons

Bureaucracy is sometimes extreme making it difficult to complete assignments.

    Advice to Management

More support to employees trying to overcome difficult bureaucratic hurdles that sometimes does not apply to all aspects of the business.

    Pros

Great work-life balance and good benefits.

    Cons

Managers are clueless and don't listen. Technology is outdated and the company in general is slow to respond to changes in the market and technology. They are behind the curve.

    Advice to Management

Stop building kingdoms and listen to the folks who actually do the work. Spend more time managing downstream and less time sucking up to upper management. Reward those who are doing excellent work and not those who do nothing but suck up.

    Pros

Good pay and flexibility on schedule. My immediate management is very competent and knowledgeable. I love the work I do at Jeppesen and proud of the fine products offered to fellow pilots.

    Cons

Obvious distinction on contractors and "real employees" by the company. No clear path to becoming permanent despite over performing on department goals while being severally understaffed. Have seen several people with less experience hired off the street into permanent positions in the same department. Contrators are now going to have to park offsite to make room for "real employees"

    Advice to Management

Stop treating people like a number on a spreadsheet and give opportunities to people who want to make a career at Jeppesen. You are about to lose a contractor who loves working here despite the cons.

    Pros

Great group of people to work with below the management level. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

The company culture is to place worker bees into management positions once they have showed company loyalty. Favoritism plays a large role in this placement as well. The problem with this approach is that many of these worker bees have never been in management roles or exposed to management experience. There first taste of it is under time and production pressures leading groups of employees that were once their peers.

    Advice to Management

Hire managers that are managers. It just makes sense. The current process is analogous to hiring a pilot who has never flown a plane before. Would you trust, respect, look up to, and be motivated by such a person?

I have been working at Jeppesen full-time

    Pros

Great work life balance, virtual work from home option, good benefits. Upbeat crew with extreme focus on perfection. Professional environment.

    Cons

Limited upwardly mobile path due to minimal employee overturn. Negative office behaviour goes unnoticed by superiors. Acknowledgement and resolution of this needed.

    Advice to Management

No advice. Not dis-satisfied with management.
