    Pros

    Aviation is really interesting.
Could be a great place to work once again if positive changes are quickly made by Boeing leadership.

    Cons

Layoffs and reorganizations. Technology leadership that does not value passion and drive to create great software. Ancient technology. Constant churn in direction.

    Advice to Management

Rehire the passionate, skilled engineers that were building your competitive advantage and enable them to succeed with experienced, skilled leaders and with a stable, adequate budget.

    Work on cool applications

    Cons

Software practices are ever changing and adrift.
    Management is multilevel and non-technical.
    Software quality is poor.

    Advice to Management

Changing processes and tools while retaining the same people who wrote the bad code in the first place will not improve the code.

I worked at Jeppesen (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The history and legacy of Captain Jeppesen is an amazing thing to be part of.

    Cons

The passion that once pulsed through the company is being crushed by the parent company, Boeing. The entire leadership are Boeing employees, sent to come in, do a job and leave.
There is no longer an emotional/ personal connection of leaders to their employees, which creates distrust and further loyalty to the mission is either severely strained or completely gone.

I worked at Jeppesen full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

There really weren't very many pros by the time I moved on

    Cons

    Management had no solid direction
Employees were left wondering what they should do most of the time
They would not recognize that keeping the existing business running was IMPORTANT
Strategies were continually changing, wasting lots of hours of employees' time

    Advice to Management

Figure out what the direction is going to be and go for it.
Reward your people for keeping the existing (money-making) business going

    Pros

    Great work / life balance.

    Cons

Leadership has been replaced by mid level Boeing managers. While often very nice these guys are not software visionaries. In fact many of them make very poor choices then blame the teams for underperforming.

    Advice to Management

Stop making the same mistakes over and over. Hold poor leaders accountable. Stop it with lame technology decisions, dont trust anyone that says building 55's datacenter can be fixed. And really... Call in ethics to see what is going on with Azure.
