"IT in jetBlue has become a department with no advancement and very low morale. No opportunity, poor leadership."

    Pros

It used to be a much better place to work. The coworkers and other non-leadership staff within IT are good to work with and work hard (most managers and staff).

    Cons

Travel benefits are decent, tough to travel with your family.
Health benefits could be better, but aren't bad (I've had worse).
IT Leadership has managed to drive morale to very low levels, and make it repeatedly clear they have no appreciation for the staff, nor any intent to help develop the careers of the staff.
No promotion and career advancement from within for IT.
Talent and hard work is not rewarded within IT. Poor work, poor results and last minute heroism during major system outages is rewarded instead, preventing incentive to do good work the first time.
IT Leadership in the past couple of years has hired some inexperienced managers and directors with little technical knowledge and industry or IT experience from various parts of the country to agree to take on work and agree with IT Leaderships directives, staff is paid below market and given no incentive to put in that extra effort.
IT Leaderships goals are quantity over quality.
No interest in career development or growth, and it looks like the light at the end of the tunnel is outsourcing.

    Advice to Management

Leadership outside of IT should take a look and see what's obvious to everyone within IT before everyone with talent and good ideas leaves. IT at jetBlue is in a poor state and will not be able to sustain the growth and direction jetBlue wants to go in its second decade. Promote from within and stop looking around the country for yes men to put in management positions.

    Pros

flight benefits, exiting field of work, it is fun if you can overlook the crazyness and uncetainties of the industry but for sure the unfair politics will bring you down

    Cons

on your feet all day and not allwed to sit down-leads have their click and they get away with anything and everything-if mgmt likes you then you're on your way but if for some reason they dislike you or anything you do they will find a way to make you look bad- you cannot trust leadership (and I use the term very loosely here) favoritism is the norm at jetblue and to top it all they make it seem like they hold their company's values true but they do not.

    Advice to Management

be fair, say what you mean and mean what you say.
get back to the principles that were alive and real when the company started.
the only caring is for the profit of the company and to hell with the employees.
you can place mandatory overtime but you fail to let people leave early when it is not busy or have an urgent situation unless if benefits the company's bottom line nad penalize those who do have a life and need to be home to take care of their spouses, children or family members.

    Pros

Need to have a job. Get free airline travel.

    Cons

Senior management at oakland airport is terrible. They discriminate against anyone who is not a friend or family member of management.

    Advice to Management

    Quit or go somewhere else.

    Pros

The flight benefits are among the best in the industry. The salaries tend to be below market, but the work life balance is good.

    Cons

Working in Forest Hills, Queens is the worst location I have ever worked in. There isn't even a decent place to eat lunch. The senior management is indiferent, and is mostly interested in advancing their own career instaed of supporting their team,

    Advice to Management

Let's support the crewmembers who are working hard, instaed of creating roadblocks, specially in IT.

    Pros

Travel opportunities. Public acknowledgement as a good "cool" airline to work for. Hopefully Dave Barger will change employee morale. Dave, dont listen to mid management, ask the frontline employees!

    Cons

Very poor communication between departments. No one or no department willing to accept responsibility. Extremely difficult for resolution of matters between mid management and employees. No one at mid management wants to make a decision, take action for fear of being held accountable and thus on the chopping block if someone one grade higher does not like decision. All of the "Company Values" that JetBlue claimed to be founded on are no longer existent. Employees treated as worker bees and drones, not acknowledged for work they do. Mid management too fearful of upper management and that trickles down.

    Advice to Management

Go back to your values. Get rid of most mid management supervisers, etc... Make sure mid management even know what the "values" are and practice them. JetBlue use to be a great place to work. Try to get back to that.

    Pros

If you like free flights then you are good to go.

    Cons

Everything happens at the upper level - forgetting about the lower employees that are the company's spine. Pretty much look at it this way, if you want to advance then move out to another company. It was once a wonderful place to work but because of so many changes the company is doomed.

    Advice to Management

Stop wasting so much money hiring new VP's and Directors and creating new positions that are relevant to what they are supposed to be and to the job. Focus on your own people once again and treat them and they deserved to be treated. No wonder many wonderful people left the company. Bring it back to where it was fun to work there and it will bring back the airline we once knew.

    Pros

When I first started JetBlue was an incredible place to work. I had a great team, and really felt appreciated as an employee. The flight benefits are nice. There's a certain level of autonomy that is nice to have, but the lack of direct supervision can be frustrating at times when you need someone to stick up for you.

    Cons

Salaries in IT are well below average. If you can't afford to do anything when you get there, what good are flight benefits? IT management continues to make promises that are not kept. Recent initiatives to review salaries and experience were a step in the right direction, that unfortunately missed the mark completely.

    Advice to Management

Return to the core values that the company was founded on.. Safety, Caring, Integrity, Fun & Passion 4 out of the 5 are gone..

    Pros

Can't claim any. because they are usually taken away on a weekly basis

    Cons

Typical Airline management, enough said. Company stock purchase plan reduced to nothing. Stock options no longer offered to new hires. Significant reduction in pay if you use your sick time. A daily reduction in over-all work environment and quality of life.

    Advice to Management

Treat your people how you promised in the beginning, or we are doomed to be just like every one else. What ever happened to take care of your people and they take care of the customer..

    Pros

flight benefits are great, get to work outside, physical work, flexible schedule, vacation and benefits even for part time employees.

    Cons

early monrings, late nights, very physical labor, seniority based schedules, very "gang like" atmosphere, long hours, incompetent middle management, many senior unhappy employees.

    Advice to Management

better pre-employment screening, make it easier to clean out the "dead wood" employees who have plenty of senority but dont want to work hard at all.
