I have been working at Jewel-Osco part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's a busy job that keeps you on your feet and active, which is more than some positions at a grocery store can speak for. If you get along with your co-workers, you'll be a lot better off.

    Cons

I've really only had one bad manager--the rest seemed to be pretty hands-on in helping us out or were friendly and easy to get along with. Store management can be a pain in the butt, though.
They'll also want you to work evenings (especially if you're part-time). If you stick it out, you'll gain some seniority and probably more schedule flexibility.

    Advice to Management

Don't breathe down our necks every 20 minutes or so. We're busy helping customers and getting food prepped, and you know that. You honestly don't know how hard we work to get our shop just how you like it. Consider a more hands-off approach. To the deli at least.

I have been working at Jewel-Osco part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Sadly the pro's at Jewel are no more. Once on top of the game in Chicago is no more.

    Cons

The time for Jewel is over. The stock is on a downturn.

    Advice to Management

I can only speak for my store and management is under skilled, under educated, have flamboyant tempers that they take out on their staff. Which gets witnessed by customers. They speak a good game yet they do nothing to back it up. They lack in customer service abilities. Because they have very few communication skills. They are firmly confused on how to treat people. And it's bleeding business. My prediction for Jewel in Chicago is the way of the dinosaur. Remember Dominicks? Jewel is under fire. They are now highly outclassed by Whole foods, then Marianos, even Trader Joes has made their way in to the city. And most people if possible buy their meat at ALDI for the remarkably low prices for high quality beef. People go only now to Jewel if it's convenient at that moment. Otherwise they go anywhere else in including Walgreens and CVS. This is my observation after a half a year with Jewel and I have a resume to back up my judgement.
