I have been working at Jewish Community Center part-time

    Pros

All of the managers are fair, good at their jobs, listen to employees, and are really good people. It's a genuinely pleasant place, and the co-workers are awesome. Free membership. Time off is easy to arrange.

    Cons

    Low pay, but it's a non-profit.

    Advice to Management

Don't offer a desk clock as an incentive to employees who don't have desks. Gift cards, lifetime gym memberships, staff parties, student loan forgiveness for working at a non-profit, other employee benefits would all be better than a clock.

    Pros

The flexibility, and family atmosphere if your at the right JCC

    Cons

I just transferred to another JCC and its nothing like the one i came from, the benifits are not the same and the new one does not value the Jewish tradition like the other JCC.

    Advice to Management

Please be mindful about your new employees and pay to accommodate their needs as adults

I worked at Jewish Community Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great environment and a great place to work.

    Cons

    The pay is low.
I was accused of something I didn't do on and was let go because of it.

    Advice to Management

If one of your assistant teacher is doing something that you do not like you might want to look to the lead teacher.
It is not the fault of the assistant that they listened to a more experienced professional.

I have been working at Jewish Community Center full-time

    Pros

I worked as a camp counselor at the JCC for a summer after graduating college. Overall I thought it was a good place to work, if you like working with kids. The kids are generally well behaved, no fist fights or anything (although I was working with 6 year Olds so your mileage may vary.) The staff are really nice and helpful, even if you don't have experience.

    Cons

Some of the staff are a little scattered and sometimes it's clear no planning has taken place. Teenage co-workers are a mixed bag. Some are really responsible and helpful, some don't really do any work at all. Also no breaks all day.

I worked at Jewish Community Center part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Loved working with kids and young adults. Lots of outside time, sunshine was great for benefiting my mental health. Met a tons of supportive co-workers from all walks of life. Very positive people, fast paced environment.

    Cons

The payroll operates on a terrible, and I mean TERRIBLE system. At least when I worked here. Sometime the system wouldn't let you log-in at all, or only from mobile. Some school locations don't even have access to a laptop for online log-in. Expect 10-15 minutes extra just for clocking in. This needs major attention from upper management. Secondly, lack of communication, especially in coordination with the school site administration. Items such as rain day plans, schedule changes, also field trip days; these would be nice to know far in advance and not 5 minutes before I am supposed to be in the classroom. Or sometime not knowing at all and trying to hurriedly find a class that isn't in the building. Rain days were spent inside, and 30+ kids with energy abound indoors is always a bit frustrating. Some schools did allow gym time, and I would encourage that as a great alternative. My students who were allowed gym access indoors were MUCH happier.
Also, pay sort of sucked. I was paid a fair hourly wage above minimum wage, but only compensated for 1-3 hours of work and had to travel across the city to two locations to only scrape together 5 (maybe...MAYBE 6) hours when I was out commuting and sometimes waiting for the school to open for a total of 9-10 hours. Getting paid for half of the time I was out was not worth it. Which, is why I eventually left.

    Advice to Management

PAYROLL. Please address the payroll issues. Also some men in upper management tended to be misogynistic and made very inappropriate comments at large meetings. When a majority of your staff are women, POC, and queer this reflects very poorly on the organization as a whole.
