I worked at Jewish Community Services full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Wonderful place to work. Great work-life balance. Flexible work schedule. Amazing vacation, sick and holiday package.
It is a feel-good work place.

    Cons

People stay in their positions for a long, long time which makes it hard for the newcomer to move up.

I worked at Jewish Community Services part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Nice co-workers, clean work environment

    Cons

Alot of work for a little pay, employee dedication and loyalty always taken for granted, management out of touch with employee's needs, hidden discrimination, two faced supervisors

    Advice to Management

You will continue to lose good people because of your hardnosed approach to dealing with legitimate employee problems, concerns and grievances. Working at JCS turns into a hostile, stressful environment.

I worked at Jewish Community Services part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Great holidays!
Good flexible work schedule for a mom.
    Amazing support from direct supervisor.
A diverse workplace considering it's a Jewish organization and employees felt like family.

    Cons

There seemed to come a point where there were many levels and layers within the company organization. It seemed to get too political and difficult to get a simple task completed without several eyes looking it over.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work but don't forget that your front line employees are the back bone of the compnay.

I have been working at Jewish Community Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very open and welcoming work environment, career services provides services for all levels of job seekers and has a small but solid program for individuals with various disabilities from physical and developmental. JCS encourages continuing education, most training and workshops are paid for. Career Services allows staff to be creative when working with clients and pairs clients with which career counselor best matches clients needs. Staff is able to build relationships with individuals they may have never had a chance to meet in life. Those experiences make a lasting impression.

    Cons

Even though the number of clients with disabilities is low the clients needs are very demanding and tend to do add additional work with coordinating with other providers. Educational trainings are provided but there are limited resources to learn how to deal with some of the clients behavior issues. Days are long, forward progress is slow and sometimes the work is heavy on the heart. On the low end of the nonprofit salary end and does not compensate for work load. Health benefits are limited. Plans only offer in-network providers and the mental health coverage SUCKS...basically nonexistent. Not the best for employees with preexisting conditions.

    Advice to Management

More support with time management, case load and administrative responsibilities. Required training for handling difficult clients and situations.

I worked at Jewish Community Services as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's nice coming into a working environment where everyone is inviting and makes you feel at home. I like how I have my own office and my own space to work. Additionally, the benefits are great and we get off for all of the Jewish holidays.

    Cons

Limited advancement and limited resources for staff

    Advice to Management

Provide staff with tools to better their success with clients
