I have been working at Jewson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good team, interaction with the customers. Decent employee discount. Performance related bonuses the usual pension scheme. Very large company so good scope to move around

    Cons

Very successful company should pay more attention to the overall moral of the staff. Over worked due to being very tight on staff in all but the city centre branches.

    Advice to Management

    Need more staff

I have been working at Jewson full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Wages on time, great staff in branches, Top Management are the key to success.

    Cons

Area Directors are poor, some even sit in the branch listening to the phones ring or the counter staff struggle to serve then give you a rollicking for staff levels or holiday planning. Poor salaries, bad communication

    Advice to Management

Turn up to planned meetings on time, listen to your team, answer a phone or serve a customer in branch instead of sitting on your mobile phone. Are we not one company? Is it beneath them to do this?

I have been working at Jewson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

No one day is the same, 90% of customers are alright and great to get along with. Friendly place to work with a vast amount of wealth and knowledge to rely on.

    Cons

Never seems to be enough resources or training in place to keep morale happy. Focus always appears to be on new graduates who have no experience, same can also be said about those who work at head office, they have no experience of what life is like in a working branch! Management seems to tell you what you don't need to know as opposed to what you need to know.

    Advice to Management

Look at training your longer term employees as opposed to focusing on graduates

    Pros

Not a bad compay to work for.

    Cons

By no means the best company to work for. A lot of things that you are told will happen for your career development never happen. Unless you face fits

I worked at Jewson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A good corporate identity. A lot of the staff are friendly and easy to get a along with. The pay was also decent.

    Cons

At a branch level, the managers can be useless. The pricing structure used is also crazy, leading to a lot of customers going to competitors. If you want to progress, be expected to lose your work life balance, as they'll have you coming in on Sundays after the branch is closed for odd reasons. A lot of the staff are also moany about life and everything in general, which can sometimes put a dampener on the place.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention at a branch level and get to know what's going on. Don't be afraid to get stuck into the jobs that you expect your staff to do.

    Pros

Good collegues, stability, good national identity, positive about sensible health and safety at work

    Cons

Corporate machine can sometimes be out of touch with the smaller realities, sometime failure to identify that branches can be different, and cant always fit under the same model

    Advice to Management

Tone down on the corporate speak, talk english to the people that dont do corporate
