I worked at JoS. A. Bank (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I liked solving the clothing problems of the men coming into our store for assistance. A lot of men are surprisingly color blind! I would lay out various items and colors and when we had one complete from the jacket, shirt, etc. to the shoes then they would take a color photo to put inside their closet!

    Cons

They decided to start renting tuxedos and it was a night mare! 1-5 tuxedos would arrive the day before the wedding and it was very rare that they all fit correctly! Our tailor would have to stop working on our alterations, start working on those because sometimes they were leaving that evening to drive to the wedding location. I would then have to call our regular customers to tell them that their clothes would not be ready for pick-up for another day or two! I just got tired of it!

    Advice to Management

Select a company that follows the measurements that are sent to them!

    Pros

Sales associates have potential to make good money, easy to learn the product, easy to move up in the company, decent clothing to personally stock up on.

    Cons

Slow sales during the summer. Leaves you bored during shifts. They just lowered the employee discount again, so its down to almost nothing.

I worked at JoS. A. Bank full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good discount, easy to move up, you can make a lot of money if you work in a big enough store.

    Cons

Hours often vary if you're part time, base wage is low if you don't make a lot of sales, inconsistent pay from week to week. Really bad holiday hours.

    Advice to Management

Train your employees to let the quality of the garments sell themselves, and to try to sell the higher quality items that benefit you and the customer more than the cheap merchandise.

Former Employee - Sales Associate in Rock Hill, SC

    Pros

My position was in Rock Hill, SC. A small to medium volume store. it was pretty relaxed with a total of 8 employees on the payroll including the tailor. We were all friendly too each other, and work went smooth. The customers are generally friendly with little problems. They also know the product is good, so if they have the money they are going to buy, its your job to get them to buy more. The Pay goes: minimum wage to 8.50 OR commission which ever is more.

    Cons

Not many cons it was a nice job if your good at sales.

    Advice to Management

The management was really good at my store. Robert was a good boss.
