    Pros

Great people, that are passionate about a really innovative product

    Cons

Too much churn and a business process that needs to be remediated. I see a lot of areas where this product really doesn't have the gas--the business process in place, to make a prodigious dent in their market. As one of the only online scientific video journals, the product by itself has potential. However, observing the amount of displacement, abrupt changes, fall-offs etc they need to create an environment that... empowers its employees, not punish them for excelling at their task.

    Pros

Most of the people who work there are actually great people. Product is very useful for scientists. Good benefits.

    Cons

Where to begin? Even though you'll meet great people while working at JoVE, the CEO has created a culture that is so negative it is impossible to be happy there. He does not value his employees and sees everyone as replaceable, even his top sales people. I've never had a job that I hated going to every day until I worked at JoVE. There's a reason that everyone leaves at exactly 5pm every day. It's a complete joke... that HR is having people write positive reviews on here because everyone who works there will say how much it sucks. The fact that HR responds to these reviews also shows that they're defensive because they know it's true and want to save face because a lot of people have been declining job offers after reading the reviews on here. The sales process at JoVE is laughable and changes based on Moshe's amateur ideas of the day. The decisions he makes reflect his lack of inexperience with business processes. It's hilarious that it hasn't dawned on him at this point that if he treats his employees well instead of running the organization by means of fear then his employees might actually do right by him. Unless you are desperate for a job I do not recommend anyone works here. You can earn pretty good commissions in the sales department but the base salary is so low that it doesn't equate to much annually. By the time most people are up to speed in the sales department it's too late because at that point you have a target on you back for not making any sales. Moshe should probably do some research on market saturation too. There may seem like a lot of schools to sell to but if they have partial subscriptions it is very very unlikely that they'll purchase the rest of the journal sections. Many librarians figure out quickly that science education recycles journal videos as part of the collection.

Value your employees and stop making changes to processes daily. Reinvent the office culture.

I have been working at JoVE full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - great people work here, very friendly atmosphere - CEO likes to promote from within, so there are many opportunities to move up (relatively quickly) as well as laterally to different departments - the product we make is genuinely so cool, it feels good to work for a company that is making a difference in science and making experiments more reproducible - the medical and dental insurance plans are excellent,... and employee contribution is very, very cheap for what we are getting

    Cons

    - there is pretty high turnover in some departments - many employees grumble about certain management and have negative things to say about the company, but honestly, day-to-day, the office is a pretty relaxed and 'jovial' place to be

    Pros

You can learn, what not to do for your employees if you are planning on running your own business. Great people except the upper management which surely proved they were lack of management skills especially the CEO It would be great opportunity if you are struggling with having a patience and an endurance toward to unbearable environment

    Cons

There are way too much to tell, honestly do not know where to start. It has been more than 10 years now and the CEO still believes the product is revolutionary which is apparently any other publishers are already implemented and even come up with better development. Outdated mind is spread all over the upper management, that of course includes toxic bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

Hire professionals for you upper management including CEO, if you can't, you always have option to sell the company to whom can really manage it.
