I worked at Job Corps full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Somewhat flexible schedule, a base salary, helping out low income students, travel, networking ability with lawyers, Resume’ builder since you’re a government employee. Your own office. You get to get out and do different things.

    Cons

The upper management is very demanding and generally doesn’t treat their employees well. They hardly tell you good job (even if you meet the ridiculously high goal numbers) and just push you harder and harder until you burn out. Turnover is very high due to burnout. For the same amount of stress, you can make an easy 30-50k per year more somewhere else. The pay is absolutely terrible for the amount of stress. Many of the students drop the program because it seems like a prison to them with the amount of structure. No opportunity to move up. It’s a good fresh out of college job or as a holdover job until you find something better but definitely would not recommend as a career.

    I worked at Job Corps

    Pros

In theory we are helping disadvantaged youth.

    Cons

Extreme pressure to get in impractical numbers of recruits. Horrible overturn. Though you are signing up for a 40 hour week, between folders and students calling you at 3 AM, meeting flights at 6, you are never really off. It's a salaried job where you are absolutely expected to work 69 to 80 hours a week. In top of that, the stress is unbearable and upper management has little to know organization.

I have been working at Job Corps full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The students are such a joy ! They are very receptive to learning as well as redirection. Awesome group of students !

    Cons

I have worked at Job Corps through numerous contractors, and EMC is by far the worse. They treat people disrespectfully and allow upper management to intimidate and humiliate staff members. They are a bunch of bullies. They are awful, and I cannot wait until their contract it up. If it weren't for my love of teaching, I would have left a long time ago. Absolutely AWFUL environment. If you are seeking a job here, wait til this contract is over !

I have been working at Job Corps full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Location, students and the potential to help disadvantaged youth.

    Cons

Upper Management does not associate or care about the students. Everything is centered around meeting numbers and going up in ranking at great costs. They recently went up in ranking but at a heavy cost. Many staff have resigned and students are left attending empty rooms with no guidance or instructors. There are many falsified documents and students are completed out of the program unprepared and just to meet requirements. Staff is under constant threat from administrative staff. Administrators rely on threats and bullying to get their way. Department of Labor comes down every year and sees what's going on; they even meet with staff and express their concern, but nothing EVER gets done. SO SAD.

I have been working at Job Corps

    Pros

You are providing a worthwhile service. It can be rewarding. Most supervisors are good. Hourly workers salary are not bad for the area.

    Cons

Will work you to death and burn you out. Salary personnel work long hours. There is much favoritism and policies are not always followed by upper management. Upward mobility is very selective.Moral is at an all-time low.
