I have been working at John Deere full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Benefits and compensation, flexible work schedule, lasting company, tuition reimbursement, brand recognition, superior products

    Cons

Company culture in certain factories, lack of diversity in mid-upper level management, mid-career outside highers get management jobs, underdevelopment of current employees, staggered growth

    Advice to Management

Notice talent that is right in front of you. Plenty of goal oriented people are held back due to middle managers using workers to achieve success but not rewarding those putting in the actual work.

    Culture, purpose of business, transperency

    Cons

complex process of decision, slower adoption of upcoming new things

Fasten & simplify the decision making process.

I worked at John Deere full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent pay and benefits. Being able to work with many different people. Enjoying my job. Meeting and working with new people.

    Cons

Working 3rd Shift and having to go to work when everyone else is going home. Management not getting involved with the day to day experience of what each job requires.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes management needs to experience the day to day job responsibilities of the union workers and than there would be less friction between management and union members

    Pros

Great 401k match, good benefits in general. Employees tend to continue working at the company long-term, so there are many knowledge experts at your disposal if you have any questions.

    Cons

Software upgrades move at a relatively slow pace. Legacy systems are often maintained for a very long time, and it can be difficult to innovate with peers and users so accustomed to older ways of doing things.

I worked at John Deere full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked at Deere as an intern and full time for a total of 6.5 years and I must say this is an amazing company to work for; the work you do has real meaning, you're connected with the customer, and you get to work with a great cross-functional team. Overall, Deere as a company has wonderful culture and ethics.

    Cons

Too many meetings to make simple decisions and poor retention of employees.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, they're the greatest resource you have and know what changes need to be made to advance the business.

I have been working at John Deere full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good Benefits...still has a decent pension augmenting a very competitive matching 401K.

    Cons

Company seems to care less and less about its customers and employees and more and more about keeping shareholders happy. Even after efforts to move to a more matrix organization, still extremely siloed in both organization and culture. Insanely conservative and old school when it comes to the technology running the business (although more progressive when it comes to the tech going into the products)

    Advice to Management

Need to stay with what got is here in some respects, but also open to new and better ways of doing things. Not easy to do, but feel we are lost in this respect at the moment.

I have been working at John Deere part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible work hours, educational benefits, strong-community involvement, 401k, diversity of projects, good management, knowledgeable workforce.

    Cons

Lack of direction for part-time students. Most projects are self-driven - if you want to have interesting projects, you'll have to be persistent for them.

    Advice to Management

Work more closely with part-time students. They are investing in your company and in the end, feel less invested in than the interns who come around for a summer term.

    Pros

    Inclusive environment
Iconic company with ingrained values and quality products

    Cons

Old-guard vs. the future - 30+ year employees vs. less than 15 yr. employees

    Advice to Management

Who am I to give advice to a company that has been around as long and had the success of John Deere? They know how to adapt and what it takes to be successful short and long-term.

I worked at John Deere (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people, valuable project, awesome mentorship

    Cons

Most interns get placed in the Midwest but I got lucky. I do think is better to be in the Midwest since there are more events within the company at those locations

    Advice to Management

    Great job!
