I have been working at John Laing full-time

    Pros

Genuine willingness from senior management to be dynamic and flexible and look for opportunities in new sectors or geographies, and to empower employees to deliver this.

    Cons

Limited "career management" for junior and mid-level staff, lack of availability or promotion of training programmes.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Good money for the work we do, small company and friendly

    Cons

lack of communication between office staff and all others, moved to smaller offices and the managing director sits at the same office desk as the finance director, in with the admin staff and there is not enough room for all assessors when we have a team meeting. Recruiting learners from areas that no one covers and then sending assessors miles away to cover. this is another lack of communication between recruiting staff and assessors, as they don't seem to understand the geographical location and the difference of working in London to other areas. its more of a bums on seats enrolment, much of a quantity over quality.

    Advice to Management

moving to a smaller office was not a good move. not we have very little room do do anything, the table at the end for the assessors is not big enough when all assessors are in. the small meeting room is not big enough for training - overall I think the office move was a mistake. downsizing would have been okay, if we had enough room do to the things we do. workshops will be cramped and I think it just gives a bad impression of the company now.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at John Laing full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Friendly, down to earth staff
    - Nice office
    - People are treated equally
    - Generous pension scheme
    - Transparent bonus system

    Cons

    - Can be long hours
    - Unstable currently

    Advice to Management

Senior management share the same skillsets and they need a creative input rather than just an accountancy one. They are too volatile with cutting business areas and need to avoid putting all their eggs in one basket.
