I have been working at Johns Manville full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Huge Corporation with a lot of opportunity. A lot of the managers do work to help other move up or in whatever direction they want. Lots of opportunity.

    Cons

A lot of the groups do have the old school mentality, where they look out for themselves instead of their employees. Also the vacation policy is a definite con.

    Pros

It's a good paying job that gives you the opportunity to move up to a certain extent. You have the ability to work overtime and have 8 days off once a month.

    Cons

The working atmosphere is like being in high school once again.maintenance doesn't fix things just patches them.Theres a lot of people who just go there to make a check and have no work ethic

    Advice to Management

Learn to lead and get stuff fix

I worked at Johns Manville full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are some parts of the company culture that actually happen. The overall work environment is very positive. Everyone is very nice. There is currently a lot of change planned for supply chain. This could be good, creating opportunity, or....Would have like to stay, just wasn't going to work out.

    Cons

Despite claiming market based pay, the general consensus is that the salaries are below market. The supply chain is very flat which has led to very limited opportunities for growth.

    Advice to Management

JM has a lot of very long term employees, particularly at the plants. But this does not so much reflect company culture at WHQ, realize the difference. 3% cost of living increases don't keep up with the rapidly rising, and higher than national average cost of living in Denver. Apartment rent alone is going up 13% per year. Realize this and act on it for the benefit of your employees. Recognize the importance of growth for employees you want to keep. Do these things and you are likely to have longer-term employees at WHQ in Denver.

I have been working at Johns Manville full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The company has longevity and is in a great location in Denver.

    Cons

You can not grow with the company if you do not have a college degree. For employees hired within the 1990's that do not have degrees they are under appreciated, yet they have company product history and knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Look at the employees that have stayed with JM and worked very hard, pay them accordingly.

I worked at Johns Manville full-time

    Pros

JM hires a great group of people. There was a good deal of flexibility in my position, which is nice for working parents (but it totally depends on the supervisor as others are more the micromanager-type ). JM benefits are decent, especially the 401K and their matching abilities.

    Cons

Limited promotional opportunities. Little recognition from managers. Employees are given only 2 weeks vacation when first hired and it doesn't get increased until they reach the 5 year mark. Beware of HR - they are horrible!!!!

I worked at Johns Manville (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Has good benefits and 401K. The company philosophy was originally a balanced family work life. That changed as their needs of you changed. They pay decently for most positions. Still a bit of a good ol' boy mentality.

    Cons

Even though the CEO was female, she could not relate to the average worker with children/family at home (her husband was a stay at home father) which is a shame since they have so many female employees and so few female management employees. There is a lot of talent going to waste within the company.

    Advice to Management

You're running the company like they were run 30 years ago. (think Dilbert!) Time to embrace the changes that have happened and are being offered at so many other companies or you will lose more and more of your people, and frankly, you're only as good as the people who work for you.

I worked at Johns Manville (Less than a year)

    Pros

Growing, aggressive company. Opportunity to learn new areas and expand your experience. Benefits were very competitive.

    Cons

The plant that I worked in was very difficult to affect change due to Union environment and because the product being made there was losing market share. Rest of division was growing.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be consistency in how employees and departments are treated based on performance. Several areas were under-performing, but only one or two of those areas were being addressed.
