I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent starting Pay and Benefits, pockets of great employees and teams, good core product lines and services.

    Cons

Ridiculous year after year cost cutting goals, causing intra-department adversarial environment and not based on reality or what good companies measure.
Annual goals are not tied to the actual work employees are asked to do.
No work life balance as areas that need more people cannot get them.
Annual travel bans are a joke as only followed by some.
Cost cutting & travel bans impacting training.
    Advancement is extremely limited.

    Advice to Management

Set reasonable stretch goals that are tied to what employees real jobs are, if you are holding an employee accountable for an outcome, then give them the authority to make changes that will impact the outcome.
Require all departments to follow common sense travel guidelines year round and a ban should not be needed.
Centralize departments and functions that support the common categories across all business units to reduce costs, streamline processes, and eliminate walls and confusion.
Require workloads to be reasonable so there is a real work/life balance.
Add staff to those central functions that are seriously understaffed and not to the overlapping business areas.
Reward good, hardworking employees going the extra-mile and taking on additional work.
Management should live and support the values the company preaches.

I have been working at Johnson Controls full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefit is decent: 401k match, 15 days PTO + 3 elective holidays, on-site gym and fitness programs.

    Global company, lots of opportunities.

    Friendly work culture.

    Cons

Most people in the Milwaukee offices are local, and mid west is not the most cutting edge. There could be a culture shock for people moving from elsewhere.

Too many M&A activities and reorgs, good talents are laid off because of it.

Part of the leadership does not make result-driven decisions, very political.

Profits are driven by cost control, not innovation.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in new technology and innovation, hire more people nationally/globally, encourage learning and trying new things. Be more cutting edge.

Easy on the reorg, we are losing many real talents.

    Advice to Management

Really need to improve their senior management, the lower level managers are nice and kind, but the senior managers aren't.

    Pros

The opportunity for career development was an advantage at JCI. Also the diveristy inclusion was also a plus. There was so much diversity within the company.

    Cons

One of the cons at Johnson Controls Inc was layoffs. They constantly have layoffs every year. And they hit hard this year.

I worked at Johnson Controls as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

Corporate exposure. People of Milwaukee,Wisconsin are great. Company has great opportunities for engagement.

    Cons

It doesn't take long before you see the flaws in a bureaucratic environment. The firm is currently undergoing a facelift while it divests in it's unattractive investments, so this may change.

    Advice to Management

It all starts at the top, and when you read articles about your leader that aren't just good, but character questions, that is a problem.
